Regular Council Minutes
11-18-02
Page 5
Recreation Board - Mr. Marrie said the Board will meet on this Wednesday, November 20.
Some of the items that will be discussed will be an evaluation of the October 26 community
Halloween Party (which was down, it seemed, a little bit from last year but there were 100 in
attendance); we'll also discuss the upcoming Christmas Party that will be occurring on Saturday
December 21. We also want to remind everybody (and Bill is going to pass out some fliers to
the Council and there will also be some in the back; there is a schedule on there but we want to
point out that the fire truck will leave the station at 10:30 but it is going to be the opposite route
than they've done for the last couple years. So, if you are waiting there with the children or
grandchildren, I would suggest that you pick up the schedule. The schedules are also available at
Village Hall. We'll also discuss a new sheet of ice that will be placed at Wiley 2 in the outfield
of the ball diamond for the children this winter. Finally, the Board will discuss the best color
mix for the new pour-in-place for Parkview Pool (that is a material that is placed on the concrete
for the children's area--or I should say the infants and small children's area.) Just to bring back
why, if you remember before this work was done there was a strong recommendation by the pool
committee and the manager and the lifeguards that we should change the color of that material so
it would be easier to see a child (God forbid if there was one down near the bottom and no one
was noticing it); of course that was brought home unfortunately this summer by another pool
where that happened, so they did recommend it; although that was recommended before that
accident did happen elsewhere and it did sort of bring it home. So that will be discussed and it
will be pretty much up to the manager of the pool and the guards who are working it and are the
ones there every day looking in on it. And then one other thing-I mentioned this flier and also
you should have already received your winter Parks & Recreation Brochure in the mail. It is
well done, as usual. (I had nothing to do with it but give all the credit to Bill and his staff
Danielle. Probably Danielle takes the credit.)
Mr. Thomas said Marnie, a layout artist, and we'll give credit to Danielle too.
Dr. Parker said I have one question regarding the pour-in-place. How are we doing as far as
temperature is concerned.
Mr. Thomas said they may not be poured until spring. That was supposed to be done but I am
not going to hold my breath. I have dealt with (not this company but other companies). It is just
not worth losing sleep over.
Dr. Parker said I know we've discussed it. Is there a reason why they just didn't get it done in
time?
Mr. Thomas replied they have a crew that travels all over the country and for whatever reason
they were supposed to do it in October; they were supposed to do it in late October; they were
supposed to do it in early November. I don't have an explanation other than that particular crew
just didn't get over there.
Dr. Parker asked how will that affect what we have done so far with the pool and as far as when
~~ we ~do open, it won't affect our opening time or anything else?
