Regular Council Meeting
12-16-02
Page 7
Item #18 -discussion of a motion authorizing a payment not to exceed $6,056 for the
purchase and installation of two David Clark headsets for number 611 and number 621 for B&C
Communications in Parma, Ohio. This is for the Fire Department. The Committee
recommended approval.
Item #19 - a motion authorizing payment of $4,500 to Stryker Company for a new
ambulance cot. This would be a 2"a ambulance cot which, as we have found, will work very
well. The Committee recommended approval.
[Item #20] -discussion of a motion authorizing payment of $4,757.90 to the City of
Cleveland Division of Water for the water used to water the Soccer Fields. And The Committee
recommended approval. The Service Director feels that it's most likely that this amount will be
significantly less next year since they will be more established fields and hopefully the summer
won't be as much a drought. (Chief, was there anything else with the ambulance that we needed
to--? Chief Mohr replied no.) That was it.
Hillcrest Council of Councils - Mr. Marne said no report; there was no meeting last month.
Historical Society -Mrs. Mills said the Historical Society had their annual Christmas Dinner on
December 11th and about 65 people were there. Everybody missed a good dinner; they had a
nice buffet. The quilters will not be meeting until the beginning of January; they're taking some
vacation time.
M.A.R.C. - Mr. Marne said M.A.R.C. Board met on December 5th. There were a coule of
discussions; one was the MBA Program (which I will cover a little bit more in detail later which
is very successful); also amulti-level chess program. And also a plaque was presented to Tom
Juratovac who retired from the M.A.R.C. Board after 11 years. He was given a plaque by
M.A.R.C. and also he was honored by the City of Mayfield Heights.
Ordinance Review Committee - Mr. Marquardt said no report.
Planning_and Zoning - Mr. Marquardt said Planning & Zoning had a workshop on November 21St
where we rehashed the new zoning classification and the beverage store issue. Nothing new or
no new revelations.
Recreation Board - Mr. Mamie said the Recreation Board met on (and he joked, this is a
combination of ours and Bill's and since Bill usually gets a little more time, it will take about 45
minutes for this report.) The MBA Program; we mentioned earlier that it going extremely strong
but there's 210 kids in it this year with 27 teams. The after-school Chess Program is a success;
there is 28 of them enrolled at this time (in just the first 2 sessions.) Mr. Mamie addressed
Council President Buckholtz and asked, did you want to address the Pi Society; Bill thought you
might want to cover that?
Council President Buckholtz said I just wanted to mention that the kids are very excited about
the trip. There's 3 excellent trips going over the vacation. The first one will be December 23rd; a
trip that's been arranged to NASA (through some people that work there); the kids will have an
opportunity to split into 2 groups and experience what it's like to live and work in space and in a
