.?
?
;
?
T
E
r ?.
? . ---'
Regular Council Meeting , -
1-27-03
Page 5 _
DEP.ARTMEN? ?iEA? R?FOR'I'S
Service Department - Mr. Metzung said I'd like to report that the final plans for the S.O.M.
Center Road project have been submitted to O.D.O.T. We hope that the final approvals take
approximately 4 weeks which keeps us on schedule for a Spring sale date. This did not come
easily as the last moment the Cleveland Metroparks found some desirable birds in a strand of
pine trees so they've asked us to realign the north bike underpass. A,nd we'll be working in the
next couple of weeks to get that completed to their satisfaction and to ours. They're bending
over as backwards as they can to help do that but they have naturalists-it's the construction
guys.versus the naturalists again, so---they have their internal struggles also.
Council President Buckholtz asked do we know what kind of birds they are?
Mr. Metzung said warblers or something.
Council President Buckholtz said you can submit that to our Wetlands Committee.
Mr. Metzung said also speaking of S.O.M. Center and the resurfacing south of Wilson Mills---
both projects were planned to end at the respective riorth and south boundary of the
intersection-with the intersection not being taken care of. So, the intersection will now be
replaced with the resurfacing of S.O.M. Center Road-so that will be done this Summer.
Le2al Deuartment - After Ms. Calta said there was no report for the Legal Department, Mr.
Riter said, Mr. President, I have a question. .
Council President Buckholtz said, yes.
Mr. Riter said one of the variances that I have chosen to appeal-they are waiting for a ruling
from the Law Deparhnent as to whether they have the right to have made that variance. Have
you had a chance to look at that yet?
Ms. Ca1ta replied, we have been looking at it and we should have the answer shortly. I would
say within the next day or so.
Mr. Riter said okay, great. Because the reason I included it is there is only a 10-day appeal
period, so better to be safe than sorry. We may not even have to disouss that issue. Thanks.
Parks & Recreation - Mr. Thomas said Mayfield Village had its annual ski trip to Holiday
Valley Ski Resort in Ellacotville, New York on Monday, January 20. We took 53 skiers. Our
next ski trip is scheduled for Monday, February 17 (Presidents' Da?y) to Hollimont, also in New
York. The Spring/Summer brochure will be mailed on February 7t . We are in the process of
proofreading it now.
