Regular Council Meeting
3-17-03
Page 6
had a luncheon honoring Jan Stephens who will be moving to outside of Atlanta, Georgia very
shortly. We had 18 ladies there.
M.A.R.C. - Mr. Marrie said we met on March 6. To cover a couple of projects that M.A.R.C is
involved in: Floor hockey enrollment: there are 60 2"d and 3`d graders and 66 4th_5 th graders and
59 8-12th graders. They are also talking about the idea of a baseball clinic. It is just being kicked
around now but they don't know how and where they would do that. The Youth Ice Hockey at
Gilmour will begin on March 23. This will be the 3rd year for the ice hockey. Chess is running
its 4-week sessions. They are having between 20 and 30 people involved. The MBA finished on
March 15. This Spring we will offer youth golf at Airport Greens.
Ordinance Review Committee - Mr. Marquardt said no report.
Planning and Zoning - Mr. Marquardt said Planning and Zoning has had two workshops since
our last Council meeting. At the first workshop we discussed a presentation by Mr. Jack Carney
relative to the property at 849 S.O.M. Center Road; there will be more discussion on that one.
We received a presentation on a proposed Wingate Hotel and restaurant on Beta Drive. It was
just an introductory presentation; that was on February 20th. We had a workshop committee
meeting last week with a presentation by Skoda, Minotti on their addition to their office building.
Discussion was generally favorable and they did verify that it was a pernutted use within the
zoning district. That will be going to Planning and Zoning for a vote at the next meeting.
Recreation Board - Mr. Marrie said we will be meeting on Thursday night. The items that will
be discussed will be the upcoming Easter Party for the children which will be on Saturday, April
12 here (at the Community Room.) They are fnalizing some Bicentennial activities for July 5`h
Nothing is really nailed down solid yet. The Military Band that we wanted to bring in, we got
turned down on that, they were already booked-probably 2 years in advance. So we will try it
another year. They were talking about some tethered air balloon rides for up at the pool area
since the pool will be open but that is a"what if' right now. Also we are going to discuss the
Debbie Hudacko Scholarship candidates for this year's scholarships after the run. We will
review plans for the new park, the new ball diamonds and review possibilities of what can go up
there. (Bill had to leave this Council meeting); at an earlier meeting, he was talking about the
padding on the pool where the small children are. Mr. Marrie showed the old padding [the pour-
it-in-place] for the color and he showed the color for the new padding. The idea [to change the
color] came from the lifeguards and the kids working the area who suggested a different color so
you could see someone on the bottom easier. This [material] will be put down as soon as the
weather breaks.
Mr. Metzung said I got a call from Wickliffe, who is a sister pool to ours (it was built the same
year) and they are also experiencing the same concerns with their pour-it-in-place rubberized
surfacing; they will be replacing theirs this year also. It is a maintenance item as opposed to
something we thought was permanent.
Sewer Liaison Committee - Council President Buckholtz said no report.
