Regular Council Meeting
4-21-03
Page 15
S.O.M. Widening project-if we need any assistance-we should send him a letter. Bernie, if
you want to get together with the Lieutenant and draft something?
Lt. Dearden said I will stop down and talk to him; I don't know what he is offering.
Mr. Marquardt said he is offering the use of the property if we wanted to establish an outpost or
some sort of safety vehicle, station or whatever at his building site during his close down of
S.O.M. Center Road so it would possibly speed response to the pool or to the residents in that
part of the town during that 45-90 day period.
Lt. Dearden said I think it has more benefit to the Fire Department if they wanted to establish an
ambulance down there. I think our own intentions are to redistribute our manpower to have
someone north of the closure at all times anyhow-so I don't know it would necessarily speed
our response time.
Council President Buckholtz said we have some locations near the pool so we should at least
communicate and acknowledge the offer.
Dr. Parker questioned if we have discussed with Willoughby Hills as far as their helping us out
during that period that they are aware of it and that they might be more aware of it and they can
be more responsive perhaps than they might normally be since we're going to be closed off.
Lt. Dearden said I am sure Chief Mohr has discussed it with the Fire Chief down there but from_ a
police standpoint I don't think that our services would be hindered; we are prepared to deploy
differently than we do right now in order to ensure response to anything north of the closure.
Mr. Riter expressed thanks and congratulations to the Recreation Department re the Easter Party.
This year it was even bigger and better than in years past. Having been on the Rec Board for
many years I know how much work goes into.it so if you could pass on my congratulations and
thanks to the Rec Board for this year's even greater success. Maybe because I'm sitting on
Council this year and not on Rec Board that it was even bigger and better (so if you could pass
that along, Bill.) It was sunny this year.
Mrs. Mills said I've had some residents contact me about glass in the street in the Kenwood
Garden area; I called Village Hall and they took care of it very promptly. I am wondering if
there is something we can do a little better. I had a flat tire that had glass in it. It's such fine
glass and it punctured my tire but that's beside the point. Donna, can you talk to them about it?
Mrs. Roman said I have, several times. I will again.
Mrs. Mills said Lee did call right away and they came out and cleaned it up-the same day the
street sweepers were going through-so---
Dr. Parker said Kay Phillips came before Council probably a year ago and brought that whole
issue up as a concern.
