Regular Council Meeting
4-21-03
Page 3
for each of the piece-parcels that they supposedly purchased. My guess is that the residents were
made offers and possibly have signed offers in their hands-and that's where the language
comes that they've sold their property; there's been no transfers of any property back there, no
lot consolidations and we would know about that immediately (that is public information) when
and if that happens. I will commend one of our residents, I believe his name is Mark Hodson on
Aintree Circle who was the first to get wind of this and he was kind of alarmed because he saw
the stakes going in the ground with the orange flags for surveying purposes. My information
from the Engineers is this is not uncommon at all; you would definitely survey the property
before you would go forth with any part of it. Unlike our community, I don't think they need a
referendum vote to go forward with that so that answers another question that Mr. Hodson had in
terms of why would somebody buy all that property just on the speculation of the vote. I asked
Donna today to contact the Aintree Homeowners Association. I for one, and I am sure Bernie
will accompany me and perhaps the Mayor, for whenever they are scheduling their next
homeowners meeting or whenever it is appropriate to do so. There's a limited number of things
that we can do as residents but still I would be willing to come out and share those ideas and any
information that I would have at that time. I think the word bu_ ffer zone is again a popular, a win-
win situation for a developer; it enhances his or her property and it works for our Village.
Unfortunately there is quite a setback in the back of these yards so I think the lesson we're
learning from Mayfield Heights once again is if you turn your back on a creative and alternative
residential development you can end up with something much worse.
Parks & Recreation - Mr. Thomas reported we will be having an intern from Kent State
University. His major is sports management. He will be with us for 15 weeks. His name is
Kevin Fougerousse We have approximately 30 Pi-Society members attending the Great Lakes
Science Center tomorrow morning through about 2:00 and then we will be going over to the
NEW CAT ??? facility downtown. We're all excited about attending that. On Sunday, May 4,
we will have our 3rd Annual Track Meet for our youth. I forgot to mention but it did happen in
late March-we had been talking about our Chess Program. We had our first Youth Chess
Tournament at Mayfield Middle School for lst through 7th graders. We had 123 participating.
STANDING COIVIIVIITTEE REPORTS .
Activities Committee - Mrs. Roman said the Activities Committee will be meeting a week from
this Tuesday ?note correction]. We will be discussing plans for the upcoming Pancake Breakfast,
50's Night, 4t of July and Music on the Green concerts. If anyone would like to volunteer, I still
have openings.
Architectural Review Board - M[r. Samac said we had no meeting on our scheduled April l Oth
meeting date. Board of Appeals - Mr. Samac said we had a Board of Appeals meeting on the 15th. Four cases
were heard. One (for a garage on Metro Park Drive-larger than our zoning code permits) was
tabled; the applicant did not appear at the meeting, therefore it was tabled. Another was for a
garage on Wilson Mills Road; that variance was to allow the overall height to exceed the 15'
maximum that we currently have. That variance was granted. We had a request from OMNI
which is proposing a business-type hotel facility on Beta Drive along with an office or restaurant
