Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council <br />Monday, September 17, 2018 <br />Page 4 <br />Proclamation of Appreciation to Marv Salomon and the Mavfield Villaye Garden Club <br />for receiving a first place award from the Gaxden Club of Ohio for the Monarch <br />Waystation <br />VVHEI2EAS, the Mayfield Village Garden Club was founded in 1967; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayfield Village Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club of Ohio, Inc. <br />and National Garden Clubs, Inc., and is an affiliate of the Holden Foi-ests and Gardens, formerly <br />The Cleveland Botanical Garden; and <br />WEIEREAS, the Garden Club encourages and supports gardening, beautification, flower <br />arranging, environmental and horticultural education, and conservation; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2007, the Garden Club entered into an agreement with the Metroparks North <br />Chagrin Nature Center to obtain certification to install a Monarch Waystation, located at the <br />entry to the Mayfield Village Wetlands Trail; and <br />WI3EREAS, ten years later, in 2017, through the efforts of one of its most-dedicated members, <br />Mary Salomon, the Garden Club embarked on a major renovation of flie butterfly garden, <br />removing invasive plants, expanding the walkway through the garden, and planting monarch <br />butterfly-friendly host and nectar plants; and <br />WHEREAS, this year, the Garden Club received first place honors from the Garden Club of <br />Ohio for the work done on the butterfly garden. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMEID that I, Mayor Brenda T. Bodnar, am pleased to <br />recognize Mary Salomon and the members of the Mayfield Village Garden Club for this honor. <br />On behalf of all the residents of Mayfield Village, thank you for the hard work that has been put <br />into improving and maintaining this gorgeous garden that is regularly visited by butterflies and <br />huimiiingbirds, providing a lovely respite for all passersby. <br />Mayor Bodnar stated, thank you very much. <br />Mary Salomon stated, I just wanted to mention that Mayfield Village has kindly agreed to install <br />a bench at the garden so now besides being a respite, it's a respite you can sit down at.
