Minutes of the Regu7ai Meetiiig of Council
Monday, June 18, 2018 .
Page 11
contributing. to what people see flood'ing their front yard. I think it's been. suice removed. by the
Service Department. Xes, we are proposing 26 homes. We do feel it's going to be, I don't want to
specify it as senior, communities, everyone's kind of saying it is, but I think it lends itself to that
because of the size of the liomes. I don't flurik you're going to have more than 60 people live there.
_ The fact of the matter is, we can put a subdivision in there tomorrow. A single-family, home subdivision tYiere: I can build.a dozen homes.. Big ones. -And I can put 5 or 6 people in each house
with four cars. And you're still going to have the same amount of traffic. ,Is that really what we want
to do?
The fact of the matter is is that we are not ttying to shove something or carve something in there. We
think it's a better fit. We tlunk it's a differerit group of people who will live there than the pre-built
big lioines, the pre-built Hanover Woods' style homes in there. You are going to end up with a lot of
people living there. A lot of cars coming- out of there. - I also think that the spirif of the referendum
process is alive and well and that's- the process we're going through'toriight. Correct me if I'm
wrong, but I tliuik your vote is not a yes vote or a no vote, you want this or you dori't want this.
Your vote is, do.I meet the.requirements the way the ordinance is read_ and we certainly do. With
that being said, I hope that everyone will vote yes. - Council President Saponaro stated,, thank you very much. Mr. Christian, I am going to caution
you on one thing. I really would appreciate it if you could be calm and not be insulting. Because
your words, will not get heard wlien you do that. I know you have a lot.of good tliings to say and
I kriow you have your own concerns about flooding because of what you have been tlirough. We
have heard it mariy times. So I do want to hear you: I, truly do. So please.
Rick Christiari ,
5.10 SOM Center Road
A few years ago I ran, for Council in that district. I talked to a lot of people on Highland Road.
Both sides of the road. They were all always concerned about.flooding. It.was a major issue..
It's still a major issue over there. Both sides of Highland Road. Now I know, I have been in this
Village for over 30 years. I have seen alot of things go on. One of the things tHat I reinember is
when SOM Center Road was widened, tliey changed the drainage, the stormsewer; from a 6-foot
dianleter stormsewer to a 52-irich diameter stonnsewer. They said; oh, it will handle it. Well,
the first big rain they had, the road flooded down by North Chagrin Reservation. I don't know .
how they ever took care of that; But that road was flooded for days. I know the people, on
Highland,Road get flooded out just about every time we have a big storm. I have flood.'ing issues
ori my property that I can't get the Village to take care of. Period.. They just wori't do it. So to
sit there aiid say that you are not going to have more flooding by putting in 24 houses on 6 aczes
with driveways; rooftops, all feeding into a.storm system that can't handle it riow. I think it's
ridiculous. I just think somebody is not looking at the bigger.picture. Thank you.
Council President. Saponaro stated, . tlianlc you. I appreciate your comnlents very iizuch.
Anybody else?
