Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council `
Monday, June 18, 2018
Page 7
sliould be doing as far as that goes in identifying those locations wliere these type of developments
should be going in.
Council President Saponaro stated, very good. Thank. you. We appreciate your comments. Who
else would like to come up? There's not that many people here, but if we axe going to just repeat the
same thuig over again, we appreciate it, you can just come up, give your name and say, I agree.
wholeheartedly or I ain opposed. We hear you.
IDerek McDowell .
6543 Highland Road A couple of your points you raised when you were questioriing IVIr. DiFranco. Yes; what we want of .
Council here tonight. What I would like is for you to be the representative officials that you are
elected to .be. What do I mean by that? I mean that Higliland Road is a sma11 minority community
within Mayfield, Village. We are not a housing development. We are not large. When you go to
push this to ballot; we are going to be up against those large development communities that'don't
know what it's like to live on.Highland Road. _
I rrioved to the Village almost 10 years ago. One of the reasons why I picked Highland Road was
because Mayfield Village is a fine community. It's been a great street to raise my.family on, my 5
year old and my 2 year old: I want the Village to stay a V'illage. If you can envision the other streets
that are siinilar to Highland Road like White Road or Ridgebury; we talk about does this.fit? I don't
think there exists a properiy like this . on either of those roads, tliat are similar to Highland: In
Highland Heights or Mayfield Heights, Gates Mills, Willoughby Hills, right?
CounciY President Saponaro stated, I don't know.I'm not saying I agree with you, I have no idea.
What type, what do. you meari?
Mr. McDowell replied, two-lane, single-family residences in communities in Mayfield. Uillage. You.
go over to SOM; you go over to Bishop; tllere's not a multi-family townhouse development on those
roads.. I wouldn't compare Wilson Mills:to it: I wouldn't compare SONI to it.Those are 4-1ane.
divided highways. So I don't think it's fair to corrie in and say, well we have one on SOM Cow-t..
That's not the saine.
To. Stivo's point,. I agree with traffic. . I was tiyirig to pull out of my driveway at 2:00. . I have a
picture: There were cars tlie whole way up from my, house. I'.m on the SOM side. Almost all the .
way up to 271 there were.cars coming down the road. So,. it's already congested and to his point.
there are properties alT alorig Highland fhat if we set the precedence that you could add 4, 5, 6, maybe
even 8 if you develop both sid.es of the road. That would add thousands of residents to Mayfield aizd
definitely exceed tlie Village capacity and tlle nuiizber of residents in tlie Village and that's only ori
the Higliland Road aspeet. Now if you add tliese developments to other areas on Wilson Mills or
SOM you far exceed the number of residents tliat would be required to maintain Village status and
you would go in to City status: So that's the precedence that I would like to avoid. I don't waiit to
see Mayfield go and rriove into a buge city where there's niultiple of these developmeiits going in.
26 L117115 Oli a 6-acre lot, that's quite a bit and it adds congestion. It adds traffic and ceriainl5,
developing on a flood plain would add definitely water concems.. I don't tl-unk that was raised in
