DRAFT <br />Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council <br />Monday. May 20, 2019 <br />Page 4 <br />cooperating member, bridging the gap between building and fire code officials and helping to <br />foster a more cohesive relationship and understanding of the Ohio Building and Fire Codes; <br />WHEREAS, Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Girbino is credited with working with legislators to <br />implement many safety initiatives. Most notably, in 2011, he worked to revise the Residential <br />Code of Ohio to require that all new residential homes include both ionization and photoelectric <br />smoke alarm technology. He also introduced the concept of installing automated external <br />defibrillators in facilities where cardiac arrests are most common. This policy was formally <br />adopted by the Village in 2017 to provide citizens with the best chances of surviving a life- <br />threatening cardiac event in those facilities; <br />WHEREAS, Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Girbino has received many professional <br />acknowledgements. Notably, in 2018, Ohio Lt. Governor Mary Taylor and Ohio State Fire <br />Marshal Teff Hussey presented him with the State of Ohio's Distinguished Service Award for his <br />exceptional efforts in making Mayfield Village and the State of Ohio a safer place to live. <br />WHEREAS, Mayfield Village thanks Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Girbino for his dedication to <br />this community. He has made a great impact on the people he has served and with whom he has <br />worked. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />Michael Girbino be and is hereby recognized for over thirty (33) years of dedicated <br />and exceptional service to Mayfield Village. <br />SECTION 1. The Village of Mayfield, its Mayor, Council, residents, employers, <br />employees and officials wish to thank Michael Girbino for his many years of dedicated service. <br />We are proud to offer this Resolution and wish you well as you enjoy retirement with your wife <br />Debbie and two children. You will be missed. <br />Council President Saponaro stated, we offer our congratulations and our great thanks to a job <br />well done. We look forward to seeing you as a neighbor., We will miss you as our Assistant Fire <br />Chief/Fire Marshal. <br />Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mr. Schutt, made a motion to adopt Resolution No. 2019-42. <br />Council President Saponaro asked, discussion? <br />Mayor Bodnar stated, I would like to take a moment to echo Council's sentiments and to express <br />my personal thanks to Assistant Fire Chief Girbino. In the four years I have worked with you, <br />you have demonstrated the highest principles and highest integrity and I don't think there's <br />anybody that I know at least that knows the Fire Code better than you do. Or most importantly <br />that has held the line consistently in enforcing that Code for our safety. You Dave done that not <br />just for people wlio live in Mayfield Village but also for the people who \vork in Mayfield <br />
