Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, October 21, 2019
Page 4
OPEN PORTION
— For Public Comment (5 -minute limit imposed by Chair)
MMMMhy
816 Hardwood Court
I have been a member of the Rec Board for about 20 years starting back in the Elliot Ross era
when the Rec Department was pretty basic. We have had many projects and events in Mayfield
Village over the last 20 some years including many senior programs, the new Community
Center, Wildcat Fitness at the High School, the soccer fields by Progressive, the First
Responders Memorial, the baseball fields, the Greenway Trail, kids' holiday parties, the tennis
courts, the pool, the Historical House, new Fire and Police buildings. The Grove and concerts,
fireworks in the Village and on and on and on, I think you get my point. We are very lucky to
have all of this going on in the Village and I am hoping that Council will vote to make the
playground update the next great project. Special thanks to Danielle who submitted and
arranged and worked all of this out and got the matching grants. That is huge and we in the
Village appreciate that part of it to and we appreciate you. Thank you.
Council President Saponaro stated, thank you Mary. Anyone else?
Kate Sullivan
513 Zorn Lane
I want to thank you for the opportunity to address Council. I am a long-time resident and very
active in the community. As an adaptive swim instructor, I am one of the original founders of
the Adaptive Recreation Program which was established back in 2004. We currently have over
50 adaptive programs a year. We have approximately 175 adaptive participants in our spring and
summer programs that use the Parkview Playground area. As a member of the Parks and
Recreation Board, we originally designed Parkview Playground back in 1999. At that time, we
chose apparatus that were available to being inclusive. The playground is now in need of being
replaced and we are committed to it being inclusive. The entire area will be used frequently by
all ages and abilities. The playground's location is fairly central to all of the recreation facilities
built in the area. We are proposing a state-of-the-art inclusive playground. It would enhance the
community and be beneficial to people of all abilities. They will be able to play together
whether they have a disability or not. They will have equal access to engage and play and
interact with one another. As Co -Chair of the Village Parks and Recreation Board, we are
committed to making these continuous improvements and grow in our community as a whole.
So please support our efforts. Thank you.
Council President Saponaro stated, thank you very much Kate. We appreciate your words.
Anyone else?
There were no further comments
