Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, October 21, 2019
Page 6
Ron Wynne (Finance) - Just a couple quick things. This is the year that our collective
bargaining agreements with Police and Fire as well as our wage ordinance expire. We have been
working on that process for several weeks now and actually we will have our first round of
negotiations with both groups this week so we will keep Council posted as that moves forward.
Also, our health insurance plan with Medical Mutual is up for renewal. I am expecting renewal
information any day and we are also going to market to get quoting done from the other major
insurance carriers. That will be on a really fast track because the Medical Mutual agreement
expires at the end of this year so hopefully we will have more information in the next week or
two for that.
Shane McAvinew (Parks and Recreation) —
Commission on Aging — The next Commission on Aging meeting will be held on
Thursday, November 7th at 11:00 a.m. in the Community Room. All are invited to attend.
Senior Services — This Friday, we have our Senior Homecoming Dance Parry. We have
approximately 75 seniors plus signed up for it. It's from 1:30-3:30. If you know of
anybody who still wants to attend, we do have some spots available. It's going to be a
nice day. They are going to get their pictures taken. It is going to be enjoyable. Many
thanks go out to all of the Department Heads and those who participated in the Senior
Fair or sent a representative. It was all great. Also, we have 250 applicants who opted in
to the snow removal program. Remind your friends and neighbors that opt -out
applications are due by December 31 ". Also, we have two Lunch -N -Movie programs in
November. Approximately 50 seniors attended the tour of the Amish Home. The
Mayfield Art Show was held October 13th through the 20' at the Mayfield Branch
Library. We had over 94 entries that were received.
Parks and Recreation - We have our Halloween Party this Saturday. It will be in this
room starting at 11:00 for the kids and families of Mayfield Village. If you happen
around the community, you have probably seen a lot of the windows painted throughout
the different areas in Mayfield Village, Mayfield Heights, Highland Heights and the
Police Department and the Fire Department. We have windows painted with the
traditional Middle School Window Painting Contest. We had 48 signed up this year in
different windows throughout the community. I will be going out with Mrs. Mills and
the rest of the crew on Wednesday to do our judging. It will be a tough one this year.
Outside of that, I just have to thank Danielle Echt for all of the hard work that she has put
into this playground. We really anticipated that it was going to be a five-year process to
get the funding. The fact that she was able to turn that around in one year is quite
impressive and I think I have said it before, Cuyahoga County is the toughest County in
the State of Ohio to get these funds. This was extra special. The lady from the State,
Mary Fitch also thanked her and said how tough it was to get funding from the State of
Ohio for this project from the County. As we reported, it's going to be great. It
hopefully will be up and done by May or June. We will be coming back to Council in
probably February after we go out to bid in January. It's going to be a great transition for
Mayfield Village. I especially thank her for all of her work.
