Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, October 21, 2019
Page 7
Council President Saponaro stated, thank you Mr. McAvinew. We also concur. Congratulations
and job well done Danielle.
Mayor Bodnar stated, I just want to chime in and echo everyone's remarks and thank Danielle.
Obviously, this is not just a job for you but this program is a little passion of love for you. You
have been able to ignite a fire in a lot of other people in this community. I think we are all
supportive of a great inclusive playground. Thank you.
Council President Saponaro stated, thank you Mayor.
Chief Paul Matias (Police) — The only thing I have is the last of our seminars for October is this
Wednesday, October 23`d at 7:00 right here in Civic Hall. It's our Crime Prevention seminar.
We have gotten great feedback on these. I appreciate the support from everyone. As we have
been doing these programs, I think everybody who's attended has enjoyed them. If you have
missed any, again, come to our last one this Wednesday at 7:00. I think you will enjoy it.
Council President Saponaro stated, and Chief, I have been asked about the Women's Self
Defense. I know some women who were not able to attend who are interested in knowing are we
planning this again? If so, what does that look like? Have we thought about it?
Chief Matias replied, once I finish all of the seminars for October, my staff and I were going to
look at how everything went. This was kind of an experiment for all of us. We are going to look
at it. We got a lot of great feedback on that seminar. Everybody should be careful out there. I
posted on our Facebook page, Mayfield Heights is hosting a similar type of seminar that's called
a RAD seminar in November. You can call Mayfield Heights if anybody would want to attend
those. And yes, we are definitely going to be looking at different options for all of the programs,
but definitely Women's Self Defense. We will get something together for that as soon as we
can.
Council President Saponaro stated, very good. Thank you so much.
Doug Metzung (Service Department) - Mr. Metzung stated, thank you Council President. It's
that exciting time of year again. Leaf season started this week. It will run for the next 8 weeks
until mid-December. Put your leaves to the curb, not in the street please. No sticks. So, it will
run for the next 8 weeks until mid-December. Thank you.
Committee Reports:
Citizens Advisory Committee (Patsy Mills): Our meeting will be next Monday at the
Bennett Van Curren Historical House at 7:00. All are welcome. It's an open meeting.
Come and join us if you can and then you can tour the House also at the same time.
Thank you.
Mr. Saponaro stated, thank you Mrs. Mills, does anyone else on Council or Administration have
any Committee reports?
