Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Tuesday, January 21, 2020
Page 36
Chief Carcioppolo replied, I think the best option is to get the motor replaced and try to get
through the next five or six years when I have it slotted to replace and then remount the entire
ambulance portion which is intact and that's a cost -savings way instead of building a new squad
for $265,000 we can remount the ambulance portion which isn't problematic on a new chassis
for about $140,000-160,000. That's currently identified in my capital budget for 2023, I believe.
Mr. Murphy asked, so you said a completely new ambulance is about $256,000?
Chief Carcioppolo replied, the last one we bought if I remember, it was $265,000.
Mr. Murphy stated, $265,000, but then if we were to reuse the back portion of it, you are saying
it would be $140,000-160,000?
Chief Carcioppolo replied, that's the ballpark, right.
Mr. Murphy asked, but then if we go that route, which we were thinking about doing in 5 or 6 {
years? -
Chief Carcioppolo replied, actually, it's 2020 now, so I have it identified in my 2023 capital
budget.
Mr. Murphy stated, so I guess my only thing is if we are going to dump $30,000 into this thing
that we have already had all these issues with, you $140,000 is really now $110,000-130,000
because you would just be allocating that $30,000 to this new one instead of fixing the old one.
Chief Carcioppolo stated, I might be off base with how I am thinking about it. If we were to
rechassis —
Mr. Murphy stated, no, I am saying, if we just go a new route. So, it's still $140,000 but you're
not putting the $30,000 into this 2013 anymore. You are getting those dollars towards this new
one.
Chief Carcioppolo stated, I would have to try to orchestrate that with Horton and see if we can
even drive it to Columbus. I don't know if we could drive it to Columbus because it pumps
diesel into the cab. We would have to tow it down there.
Mr. Meyers asked, would it have to be the same chassis or a different manufacturer?
Chief Carcioppolo replied, different chassis manufacturer. I am just trying to get the vehicle
back in service.
Council President Schutt stated, at this point in time
Mr. Williams stated, point of order, there's a motion on the floor and it's been seconded.
