Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council <br />December 19, 2022 <br />Page 3 <br />Mr. Arndt stated, I would like to follow that up with saying, Officer Cross, Officer Leo, <br />it's been an honor to have you in this Village for such a long time. Both of your <br />dedicated service means a lot to many in the community. <br />Officer Cross stated, thanks. <br />Council President Schutt stated, I would like to say thank you as well Officer Cross and <br />Officer Leo. From bringing my kids up to the Police Department and you throwing <br />objects in the field behind and Leo finding them in a matter of seconds when he was <br />still in the car and you let him out. From giving tours at the Police Department to <br />everything you have done at Center School and the High School, thank you very much. <br />You are both going to be missed very much. Thank you. <br />Mr. Murphy stated, thank you both. Much appreciated. My previous job two years ago <br />I used to have an office that overlooked the police station and I used to see Officer Leo <br />doing his business and I used to keep tabs and I miss that. Thank you very much. <br />Mayor Bodnar stated, before Council votes, I would like to read this Resolution into the <br />record: <br />WHEREAS, in February of 2013, K9 Officer Leo came to the Mayfield Village Police Department <br />where he received training to assist police patrol and thereafter received additional training in <br />searching, tracking, and narcotics detection; and <br />WHEREAS, K-9 Officer Leo partnered with Officer Christopher Cross, who has served on the <br />Mayfield Village Police Department since 1994, where he served as a Field Training Officer, Range <br />Officer, and as a member of the SPAN SWAT Team and Drug Enforcement Unit; and <br />WHEREAS, K-9 Officer Leo and Officer Cross have served the Mayfield Village Police Department <br />as a K9 Team for over 10 years and together have been involved in numerous police operations, <br />including arrests, tracking of perpetrators, and narcotics detection; and <br />WHEREAS, Officer Cross and K9 Officer Leo have participated in numerous public demonstrations <br />at community events, featuring their K9 skills before citizens and schoolchildren of all ages; and <br />WHEREAS, Officer Cross and K9 Officer Leo are deserving of our praise and gratitude and have <br />earned their retirement from the Mayfield Village Police Department effective December 31, 2022; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Officer Cross has requested that his partner, Officer Leo, be permitted to reside with <br />him following retirement and that he continue to provide care for him, including food, exercise, <br />medical treatment and proper housing in the manner in which Officer Leo has become accustomed. <br />11 <br />
