Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, May 19, 2025
Page 4
Mary Betsa (Council) - Thank you Mayor Bodnar for your comments relative to Shred Day. I
only coordinated the event as I wasn't able to be there. Special thanks to Maura McKinley, Lisa
Lesner, Frank Agh, Russ Stokel, Steve Vaslaysky and Lorry Nadeau for all their hard work. There
were 285 boxes from residents and 66 boxes from the Village. The first couple of hours were
pretty steady and then the rain hit. Frank Agh was able to outfit everyone with rain gear consisting
of a black garbage bag with holes cut to go over your head and to place in your arms. They stayed
dry. Thanks also to everyone who supported Shred Day.
Council President Schutt asked, any questions?
Ms. Calta asked, do you have any pictures?
Mrs. Betsa replied, yes we do.
Mayor Bodnar stated, it would be great for the Voice of the Village.
Council President Schutt stated, thank you Mrs. Betsa.
Shane McAvinew (Parks and Recreation) — Thank you, Council President. I do have a few
items on the agenda. This Wednesday at 6:00 we have a Parks and Recreation Board meeting in
this room. We will review the activities for the up and coming summer. One of the items on the
agenda is Cruise Night which is coming up on June 141h. I have a volunteer sheet with me this
evening if anyone wishes to sign up. You will get a beautiful shirt for all of your volunteer work.
It's a very nice maroon shirt this year. It's super soft. Also, although its 50 some degrees out, they
are filling the pool. The pool will be opening the first week of June. Thanks to Frank Stupczy' s
crew from the Service Department. They did a superb job prepping and preparing the pool. They
also made a beautiful addition at the Grove around the electrical box that we had framed in with a
nice fence partially through a grant from an individual who gave $5,000 to the Village to pay a
portion of it. It's beautiful. If you get a chance to, stop down there and check it out. They have
also done a walkway over at the Community Room up to the Gazebo area. I have never seen a
more professional job than what his crew has done. Thank you for that. If you get a chance, you
will see what a professional job his crew did. It's much appreciated. Also, as the Mayor said,
the Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast was a wonderful event. We had a lot of volunteers who helped
put that together across the board including Interact. Those kids showed up and did a great job. I
always want to pat them on the back when you get Sophomores and Juniors in High School coming
on Mother's Day to help you serve and put stuff together. I always like to show appreciation to
them. This weekend is Memorial Day. The speaker is the Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Federico. We
are blessed to have him this year. If you have a chance to, come down to Whitehaven Memorial
on Sunday. Thank you.
Council President Schutt stated, thank you, Mr. McAvinew. Any questions?
There were none
