? .' PLANNING COMMISSION OCTOBER 27, 1987 PAGE 3
thought it would be and since the brightest color was immediately adj a-
cent to residential property. They will be replacing the raspberry shade
with Glidden 78-57 (beige), the accent color will be Glidden 70-17
(a lighter beige) and the pine columns will be Glidden 78-51 (a darker
beige). The colors.on the rest of the plaza will remain as they are.
He advised that the one wall that has recently been painted is a renair
and the_y merely used a coating in a color that was available, it is not
the color the building will be painted. In reference to the type of
material used, he explained that the term Dryvit was used in the minutes,
but he thought he said a Dryvit-like material, and if he used the term Dryvit, lie used it gene.rically. He presented two samples, one of Dr_yvit
and the other of the uroduct they actually used which is Audax Vinyl
Stucco (name was changed recently and it was called Sure-Coat at the
time it was applied). He further advised that Dryvit is a cementitous
based stucco and Audax is a vinyl based stucco, and explained the method
of application of both materials, coneluding that the finished product is
essentially the same but the Audax can be applied during lower tempera-
turns than the Dryvit and. they believe 'that it is more durable. - Building.
Commissioner Conway advised that the Building Department has no nroblem -
with either product, he is merely asking for clarification of the material
used. Ms, Grimes, President of the adjacent Country Club Coridominium
Association stated-that the residents will appreciate the color change
and Mr. Moughan, also a resident of the condominium, agreed, but pointed
out that the mirrors on the facade of the buildings were being broken by
vandals and the landscaping facing th.eir property was.dead or dying and
questioned what action was to be taken on these matters. Mrs. Beck, a
resident of Dorothy Drive,, commended the Building Commissioner for seeing
to it that develonments conform to the plans presented and approved by
the City,.pointing out that she had, in her neighborhood, a blue building
which had been anproved to be beige. Mr: Thomas stated that most bf the
lan.dscaping in the entire Great Northern area is in a tiideous condition.
Mr. Carlisle stated that 3 large transpanted trees did die, but that
they will be replacing the dying landscaping behind Plaza South and that
with the renovation of the parking area they will.be adding landscaping:
He further explained that they were.havi'ng_problems with their landscaper9
and will lie improving all landscaping. He also advised that-the mirror
trim will be replaced and they are hoping that the vandalism will stop;
if not they will have to do something about it. R.'Bierman moved to send
the Great Northern Shopping Center Plaza South proposal to change color
on one building on tfie south end of the plaza to the Architectural Board
of Review, the request is to change the color to Glidden 78-57, Glidden
70-17, and Glidden 78--51 and also to include the definition of materials,
seconded by J. Thomas, and unanimously approved.
5) First Nationwide Bank, 4701 Great Northern Blvd.
Proposal for slight modification to front of unit.
Mr. B. Langer, Osborn Engineering, explained that in order to rearrange
the floor plan, they would have to relocate the doors and windows of the
unit. The glass area will be somewhat reduced and the additional brick
will match the existing brick. R. Bierman moved to refer the proposal
for a light modification to the front of the unit at 4701 Great Northern
Boulevard, First Nationwide Bank, to the Architectural Board of Review,
seconded by B. Gorris, and unanimously.approved.
