Traczyk, and unanimously apnroved.
5) Livingston's (formerly Eddie's), Great Northern Shonping Center
Proposal to alter entrance in rear of Great Northern Plaza.
Mr. Montgomer_y, owner, preserited revised plans which have been upgraded
from original plans at the request of Siskind Development Conpany. The
colors will be basicallv earth tones which he believes will tie in with
the existing mall buildings. This was previously a service entrance and they will be constructing a facade about 5 feet out from the wall
to conceal the meters and he explained that the power lines will even-
tually be underground. An Illuminated green canopy is to be installed
- over th`e entrance, and will have a liner., but some of the light iaill
- show th'rough the dome, no letters will be instalTed on tlie canopy.
Mr. Gorris stated that the Commission has had concerns in the past '
with similar provosals that the lighting will' glow through the canopy "
creating wliat they consider to be basically an additional sign; he
would like the lighting to be directed down so that it does not glow
tlirough the canopy. Mr. Mongtomerv agreed tliat tkis could be done.
Mr. Bierman questioned the'signage, and Mr. Conway advised that the
total sign'area allowed in the rear should not be a uroblem arid it is
his understanding that the signage i.n'the front will be removed and the
front entrance will be a fire exit. Mr,-Montgome.zy explained that they ' are trying to create a new atmosphere for the.club for customers.25 years old and up• and will not be catering to a younger. group as did
the former establishment. Mr. Silsky, representing Country Club `
Condominium Association, stated he had.no great problem with this
proposal since it should improve the appearance of the rear of the
shopning center. He does have concerns that the business will iricrease
traffic -in the Vi.ctoria Lane and Couritrv Club Blvd. area; but is honing
that with an older clientele the vandalism that they have been experi-
encing will decrease. Mr. Thomas pointed out that this-type of,business
will generate traffic at different hours from the retail stores. Mr. Silsky again stated'his concerns about how the city is developing.
J. Thomas moved to refer the alteration of.the entrance to the estab=
ltshment that was formerly Eddie's, in the rear of the Great Northern
Plaza, to the Architectural Review Board with the condition that all
lighting at the entrance from the canop_y will be downlighting and not
transparent lighting, seconded by B. Gorris. Roll call on motion:
Thomas, Gorris, Betts; Bierman, and Morgan, yes. Mrs. Traczvk abstained.
IV.
