Mr. Hixson explained that the sign wiil be located in the planter at the corner. Mr. Bugala advised that they would,be allowed a ground sign, if they reduced the existing signage. Mr. Procacaccini stated that when Sohio built the station they used all the permitted sign areas that he needs'tfiis sign to advertise their service; that many people do not know they offer full service at that station; and that he does not believe that Sohio would reduce the signage. Councilman McKay stated that he should consider the City's point of view, and all businesses.could request additional signage. Mr. Procaccini responded that this is a huge corner lot, is beautifully landscaped, and this sign would be the same as the one at his other station. Mr. Grace maintained that other station have more signage, and does not believe that the Board should surpress this business. Councilman Tallon (sworrr in from a previous case) stated that the City does have a problem with over-signage and believes that Mr. Procaccini's problem is with Sohio. Mr. Procaccini stated that it is possible that Sohio will be changing their signage, thereby reducing the area,.but that may not happen for another year;. and pointed out that lie ' has to have price signs according to City ordinances, and`that'is charged'% against his permitted sign area._ R. Bugala moved to grant the 108.92-square foot variance for total sign area to install a ground sign-for Sohio Gas Station at 25295 Lorain Road, seconded by B. Grace. The oath was administered'to Mr. Sherba, representing the company 'installing tlie balloon, who advised that Kronheims are--requesting the bal'loon for 30 days'during their grand opening and explained this`is not actually a hot air balloon, it is inflated with cold air. In response to the Board's quest_ions, he advised that his company carries 3 million dollar-s.insurance; lighting is on a timer and can be turned off:whenever required; balloon is 26'feet high and will with- stand 45 to 50 mile per hour winds, and weather is monitored around the clock • so that balloon can be removed if a storm is predicted.
