suggested that Mrs. Blagg contact Building Commissioner Conway tomorrow. Mr.
Conway stated that he would send someone out tomorrow, but some of the items she
mentioned may be a civil matter. Nfr. Mongello does not believe Mr. Brown, the
owner, is aware of these problems, but he will advise him tomorrow. Mr. Conway
stated the an effort should be made by the owner of the property to consolidate
some of the signs, considering that the new code states that only the center can
be identified. He would rather see him request a variance for a sign identifying
all his tenants. Mr: Grace questioned how this shouid be done considering that
this Pnd of the center anly has a few tenants. Mr. Conway stated there could be a
sign for the tenants located on the corner and those facing Brookpark Road. He
stated that the City is trying to eliminating pole signs for individual
businesses. R. Gomersall moved to grant the request for Office Warehouse, 4706
Great Northern Blvd. for a 38.5 square foot vaxiance for total sign area to
construct pylon sign and also a'variance to advertise one business in a shopping
center on this sign and a 10 foot variance for the location of sign (encroachment
of setback from right-of-way). This variance for the sign will expire on Janua.ry
151 1998, seconded by T. Restifo, and Unanimously approved. Variances granted.
15. Tahitian Tan, 28646 Lorain Rd.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request 33 square foot variance as well as a
variance to use an existing pole sign including changeable copy portion.
Violations of Ord. 90=125, Sections 1163.22 (a) and 1163.04(k).
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
administered to M. and T. Gallagher, owners of the shopping centere The sign is
only to replace the face of the sign. Mr. Grace asked if they understood that the
sign would have to come down in ;Tanuary of 1998. Mr. M. Gallagher stated that
they did and explained that when the sign was installed the letters were not very
visible and they had tried before to get the sign company to change them
previously. B. Grace moved to grant the request for a 33 square foot variance as
well as a variance to use an existing pole sign including the changeable copy
portion for Tahitian Tan, 28646 Lorain Road, seconded by R. Gomersall, and
unanimously approved. Variances granted.
16. Eugene Joyce, 5842 Elmhurst Avenue.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request 1 foot 6inch side yard variance to
construct a second floor addition to a non-confornLi_ng dwelling. Violation of Ord.
90-125, Section 1135007. Also request special permit to add to non-conforming
dwelling. Special permit required Ord. 90-125, Section 1165.02.
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
administered to Mr. Joyce and his neighbor, Mr. Kelsik. It was clarified that
this is a second floor addition. Mr. Kelsik is concerned because this property is
so close the meter readers have to go onto his property. This addition is on the
other side, not next to Mr. Kelsik. He is also objecting because this property is
in such bad condition. Mr. Gomersall stated that Mr. Joyce is trying to upgrade
the house. B. Grace moved to grant the request for a 1 foot 6 inch side yard
variance to construct a second floor addition to a non-conforming dwelling and a
special permit to add to a non-conforming dwelling, for Eugene Joyce, 5842
Elmhurst Avenue, seconded by R.
