- ?r
2) Rini's Supermarket #2, 4700 Great Northern Blvd.
Proposal to construct addition to front of store.
Referred by Planning Commission March 10, 1992.
Mr. Draeger, architect, explained that this proposal is the same as the previous
one with the exception that no new areas are to be added. The existing vestibule
will be glass enclosed and since they are not relocating the office the light can
be directed into the store which faces east, not south as the other store does.
Five foot high individual letters will be installed on the green facade. The
bulkheads can be changed to brick as required on the previous proposal, but there
are three different types of brick on this building. It was agreed that they
could use the same Dartex Beaver Blend brick as on the other store. Mr. Draeger
stated that they are proposing a green metal fascia, but the owner requires white
and the adjacent Office Warehouse fascia is brown. The members agreed that the
green and brown would not be compatible, and also that when the fascia was
approved originally, the Office Warehouse was supposed to have been white. Most
of the fascias in the center has'been painted white. Mr. Conway believed that
white was approved previously and will check the minutes. The Rini's mansard ha.s
two colors at present and the members agreed it shoiald be all one color. Mr. Sohn
stated that the entire supermarket should be green and the Office Warehouse imit
should be white. Mr. Conway pointed out tha.t there was a stone area, Mr. Sohn
stated that stone between the two would be not be a problem. Mr. Draeger will
have to get approval from the shopping center owner to do this and, if he does
not he must return to the Board. The stores to the north are white at present.
The members believed that the all white mansards are monotonous and sterile. Mr.
Zergot.t speculated ttiat the landscaping should be worked out when the road is
widened. Mr. Conway stated that the City has not been very successful in getting
landscaping on this property in the pa.st and he, too, hoped that the road
widening will get some movement in this direction. T. Gallagher moved to
recommend that the Rini's section should be green, and the Office Warehouse
section should be white, and the building to the north is white and the bulkhead
should be brick, seconded by Y. Sohn, and.tmanimously approved.
3) North Olmsted Nissan, 28500 Lorain Road
Proposal to construct additions to showroom, and parts and service departments.
Referred by Plaruing Commission March 10, 1992.
Mr. Stoyanov, representing the contractor, and Mr.. Mathews, owner of the
dealership, explained that the additions are required in order to accommodate the
Oldsmobile franchise. An addition will be constructed to the south east corner of
the showrooan and the rear additions are for a separate service and parts storage.
All materials will match the existing and samples were submitted of the Belden
Utility B1end.Brick rnnnber 8520-A and the faseia will be either a porcelain panel
(similar to an alliance wall) or a Glasweld panel whichever matches exactly (a
sample must be removed to verify what is there presently); and the clear glass
wi11 have anodized clear aluminum frames to match the existing. Mr. Mathews
clarified that the original fascia did peal and was repainted, and if the factory
finished panels do not match they will repaint the entire fascia. The brick that
is on the building is no longer made, but the proposed.brick is good color match,
but the texture is somewhat courser, both are the utility size. The majority of
the brick is on the rear of the building with a small amount of brick on the
showroom. Since the grade drops down, the addition will be 2 foot lower than the
. existing showroom so the windows will be at the same level and the area below
will be a stucco to match the fascia. Site plan ha.s been revised to conform to
code, additional planting areas have been added with a concrete curb around the
perimeter. They submitted a landscape plan explaining that a new 15 foot planter
2
