Cocco, architect for Moen, who explained the proposal for the 3 story office
building which will be located on the south west quadrant adjacent to I-480
and Great Northern Boulevard. The office park identification sign will be
located in the entrance island, and there will also be a building identification
ground sign, both of which conform to code. The small directional sign is merely
to indicate visitor parking and deliveries. They intend to use this design
criteria for all signs when the balanee of the office park is developed. He
presented a model of the buildiflg showing the relationship to the sign and
explained that Moen chose this location because they need the exposure on I-480,
the sign is to be located above the parapet, on the roof top equipment screen
and will consist of individual letters that will be back lit and silhouetted,
the letters themselves will not be lit, and then the Moen "tear drop" logo will
be blue and red neon. The members studied the location and did not believe this
sign would have an impact on the residential area. J. Maloney moved to approve
the Moen Corporation request for a 157 square foot variance for the building
sign, the logo which will exceed the 4 foot maximtun by 3 foot 6 inches, and the
lettering which will e.xceed the maximun by 6 iilches (Violation of Section
1163.12(a); and also to grant the request for the directional sign a 1 square
foot variance and a 1 fooL- height variance (Violation of Section 1126.12(3)),
seconded by R. Gomersall, and unanimously approved. Variances granted.
7. Marcel Jovaneu, 4267 Dover Center'Road.
Request for variance (1123.12)e Request 1 foot variance for fence in side yard
setback on corner lot. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1135.02(f).
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
administered to Mr. Jovaneu and Mr. Haas, a neighbor. It was clarified that he
was allowed to have a 30 inch•fence and he wanted a 42 inch fence. Nir. Jovanov
explained where the fence would be located and advised that he does have a 6
foot fence around the balance of hi5 property. Since the fence is planned to go
right to the sidewalk, Building Commissioner Conway advised that the right of
way was 1 foot on the inside of the sidewalk and the fence could not be
installed on public property, and further advised that the fence must be 50%
open. Mr: Haas would prefer a lower fence and suggested a 36 inch fence. The
members agreed that a 36 inch fence would allow more visibility of people on the
sidewalk. Mr. Jovaneu agreed. It was.clarified that he anly had to have th4266
foot fence in the side setback. J. Maloney moved to grant Marcel Jovaneu,
Dover Center Road, a 6inch heigit variance for fence in side yard setback on
corner lot which is to be installed one foot inside the sidewalk, seconded by R.
Gomersall, and tmanimously approved. The oath was
administered to Mr. Costel.lo, the owner, who advised that he only needed the
signs for 1 week during the time period requested on the application. Building
Commissioner Conway suggest.ed that the varianee be granted for one week andMr.
Costello call him with the.exact dates. R. Gomersall moved to gxant the request
of Hobby's Etc. at 23345 Lorain Road, to have 2 temporary portable signs for a 7
day period from September 12 through September 26th9 seconded by W.
