T.
Koberna moved to grant to Larry Hess, 3194 West 230th Street, a 5 foot variance
for location of shed from rear property line, seconded by J. Maloney, and
unanimously approved. Request variance to install pylon sign for
individual unit in shopping center; request variance for location of pylon sign;
and also request 14 square foot variance for sign area allowed for a business
unit. Violations of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.12(h); 1163.12(b); and 1163.11(c)e
Alternate location for sign would need the above listed variances, as well as a
request for a variance to delete one parking space. Violation of Ord. 90-125,
Section 1161.05(r).
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
admi.nistered to Mr. Hanna, representing Cap'n. Taco, who explained that there was
smaller vacant Lmit at the end of the building and offered to leave space on the
sign for a future tenant. Mr. Koberna commented that the sign will hinder
visibility no matter where it is locatedo Mr. Gomersall stated that the first
location would probably be the least obstructive. Building Coirmmissioner Conway
suggested that the sign be moved ba.ck so a driver could see past it and he agreed
that some space should be left for an additional tenant. After some discussion,
it was decided that the sign would be approximately 8 foot high by 4 foot wide
(which would allow more visibility) and the bottom one-third would be left vacant
so another tenant could add an insert. It was clarified that the variance would
remain the same as requested. Mr. Conway asked that it be stipulated that the
location of the sign be such that when a car was legally stopped at the right of
way, the driver could see beyond the sign. R. Gomersall moved to grant to Cap'ne
Taco at 29603 Lorain Road, their request for a variance to install a pylon sign
for an individual unit in a shopping center which will provide space for a second
tenant and also to grant a variance for location of a pylon sign to be located so
that when a car is legally stopped at the right of way the driver can see past
the sign and also grant a maximi.un of 14 square foot variance for sign area
allowed for a business unit and with the stipulation that since this is a
non-conforming sign, it will have to be removed by January 1, 1998, seconded by
J. Maloney, and unanimously approved. Variances granted. ?
9. Famous Footwear, 26245 Great Northern Shopping Center.
This request was heard first.
10. M.
