The plan shows signage on <br />both the kiosk and the building and Mr. Conway suggested that they present a <br />specific sign pa.ckage since variances might be required and all of them could be <br />presented at the same time. At this point the motion was seconded by Mr. Thomas,. <br />and lmar,imously approved. <br />3) Kahn's Cuisine, 23135 Lorain Road. <br />Proposal to renovate facade of restaurant. <br />A1s. Huang, owner, presented plans. Building Commissioner Conway submitted a <br />model of the roof treatment which had been left in his department previously. The <br />buildi.ng is in the setback area and this oriental type treatment will be <br />installed an the door area in the front and wil.l extend down the side wall with a <br />similar architectural feattare placed further down tha.t wall for balanee. It was <br />clarified that the actual color of the briek wi11 remain an off white (the <br />rendering shows it as yellow). Mr. Thomas suggested that she present a more <br />accurate color rendering to the Arahitectural Board or at least submit colored <br />photographs. Mr. Conway clarified tha,t a permit had been issued for a pole sign, <br />and he would not consider the oriental lettering an the building as signage since <br />it is not a functional sign. The Bnilding Department will verify if a variance <br />would be required for the wa11 sign (varianee has been granted for the pole <br />sign). Mr. Orlowski suggested that the dtunpster be enclosed since it is adjacent <br />to the residential area. Ms. Huang advised that the dumpster will be relocated <br />and enclosed with a fencem No additional lighting is planned. B. Gorris moved to <br />refer the Kahn's Cuisine, 23135 Lorain Road proposal to renovate the restaurant <br />facade to the Architectural Review Board for.their input, seconded by J. Thomas, <br />and tmanimously approved. <br />4) Ground Round Restaurant, 24250 Lorain Road. <br />Proposal for exterior renovation to restaurant. <br />Bruce Weekly, contractor9 presented plans and colored samples of the masonite <br />exterior siding in green and yellow,. and a colored rendering of the renovation <br />showing a. new striped canopy. Originally they had intended to back light the <br />canopy, but had been advisecl tha.t back lighting would not be approved. Mr. Gorris <br />was concerned that these col.ors might be too bright and further advised that they <br />could have down lighting inside tYie canopy, but that light should not glow <br />through the canopy. Mrs. 0'Rourke did not believe that it would be too bright. <br />Building Commissioner Conway advised that the parking had been reviewed when the <br />adjacent Lauren Hills shopping center was built and does conform to code. No <br />exterior lighting is planned, but they might install some ground lights in the <br />landscaping. A new logo is to be installed on the pole sign. Mr. Skoulis <br />suggested that, since pole signs are to be eliminated by January 1, 1998, they <br />consider changing to a ground sign. Mr. Orlowski requested that the dumpster pad <br />and enclosure be extended to inclucie the recycling dumpsters. K. 0'Rourke rioved <br />to refer the Ground Round Restaurant propasal at 24250 Lorain Road, for exterior <br />renovation to the Architectural Review Boarda It is the Commission's <br />understanding tha,t the builder is aware that pole signs will have to come down in <br />1998, and he is agreeable to changing the sign to a ground sign or pylon sign; <br />therefore it is recommended that he be prepared to show the A.R.B. a rendering of <br />4
