?
just those along the swale. Mr. Josyln had no problems with the removal of these
trees. Mr. Gorris clarified that no more trees r-»nning from east to west will be
renoved and those existing in that ?area now will remain. B. Gorris moved to
approve the. North Olmsted United Methodist Chureh proposal to construct an
additional parking area at 4600 Dover Center Road with the understanding that the
additional screening currently n,nnirg east/west along the swale will not have to
be removed in order to accommodate this parking lot and it is the Commission's
suggestion that a sample of the light fixture be taken to the B.Z.D. Committee of
Council and it is also understood that this lighting will not result in any
additional spill over of light from this parcel and become a nuisance to the
other neighbors, seconded by K. 0'Rourke, and unanimously approved.
3) Society National.Bank, 26401 Brookpark Road, Great Northern Shopping Center
(the present site of Putt-Putt).
Proposal to construct free standing building.
Mr. Belden, attorney, Mr. Sandrock, and Mr. Smith, architects, presented the
plans. Mr. Belden explained that Society has bought out the Putt-Putt lease and
has entered into an agreer.ient with Great Northern Shopping Center to lease a 1.59
acre of land on which they intend to construct a 4,800 square foot full service
bank. No variances will be required to construct it. Mr. Sandrock explained that
after Society and Ameritrust merged, this area had two very large dollar volume
facilities. The existing bank in the center was not adequate to handle business
of both banks. The two drive up A.T.M.'s in the free standing building adjacent
to Brookpark Road will be closed and these facilities will be incorporated into
the bank building. N'ir. Sandrock does not know what is planned for these
structures. The vacated Society building on Great Northern Boulevard will be
returned to the owner. Chairman Gorris noted that when National City Bank was
asking to go into the center on Great Northern Boulevard, the Commission was told
that Society still held the lease and did not want to sell it. Mr. Sandrock
explained that they had considered altering the building, but there had not been
enough land and the traffic had been a problem. They intend to keep that building
until this issue is resolved. Mr. Smith explained that the building will be
visible from both the ring road of the shopping center and Brookpark Road. They
will be adding 6 additional trees to supplement the 10 that are on the site,
intermittent landscape islands will be installed throughout the parking area with
a large landscaped island to define the drives. There are 84 parking spaces on
the site and they will be adding 42 spaces, but only 24 new spaces were actually
required. A canopy will be installed over the A.T.M. islands and an after hours
depository and an additional area will be reserved to install another A.T.M. if
necessary. There will be no drive through teller windowo Building Commissioner
Conway verified that 24 spaces would be required for this building, and these
spaces will be counted for the entire center since-it is a11 one development. Mr.
Orlowski noted that traffic from the drive thru could turn right to the drive
behind Finast where the truek docks are located. He suggested that arrows be
painted an the pavement to direct traffic back through the parking lot to the
shopping center and also signage directing traffic to turn left to return to the
ring road through Society Bank's parking lot. Mr. Tallon would like some
pedestrian walkways from the existing sidewalks and from the adjacent buildings.
He clarified that these did not have to be raised sidesaalks, there can be
designa.ted areas for pedestrian traffic leading to the building through the
parking lot, from the sidewalk on Brookpark and from the adjacent buildings. He
was also concerned that the lights of the cars in the drive thru could shine onto
Brookpark Road and cause a problem and suggested that, depending on the
topography, soMe shrubs could be installed on the grass area to shield the
lights. Mr. Skoulis noted that there is an existing pole sign on the property
3
