i
with the residents. Mr. Kevin Mohan, a 25 year resident of Country Club, explained that he is a
Realtor who has sold many units in the area. He advised that the reconstruction of Country Club
Boulevard has helped in the resale of the u.nits. He stated that there is a strong concern that this
proposal would create the same situation that is now behind Handy Andy and Plaza North which
limits the resale of units backing up to Plaza North and noted that residents wanted to preserve
their investment. There is great concern that there will be more heavy trucks on the service road
which is already badly shattered. Mrs. Griffith, a resident who lives close to Handy Andy's,
explained that there is a frequent problem with trucks sitting behind Plaza North with their motors
and lights nmning for several hours in the middle of the night. She, too, is concerned that there
will be the same problems behind Plaza South, and questioned why there could not be some
screening possibly a privacy fence behind Plaza North as well as Plaza South. She agreed that it
was impossible to sell these u.nits. She believed that Biskind should do something about these long
standing problems. Mrs. Griffith was advised to call the Building Department, and she stated that
her neighbor called the police, but people still were awakened. W. Benson, a resident , was
concerned that customers would pick up items in the rear creating even more traffic. He was
advised that all customer pick ups would be through the front door. He doubted that since other
stores have pick up in the back and there is little room in front, and questioned if the city would
allow it. Mr. Benson also questioned where the rubbish pickup would be since they will be
removing the existing du.mpsters. Mr. Papandreas explained that they will be removing all the
durnp sites that service the displaced tenants. These dumpsters will be moved north to the
screened area behind Plaza North where the security and storage areas are now. He aLso showed
the residents where the additional parking spaces would be located. Mr. Peters, who lives behind
Plaza South, complained about the cru.mbling streets behind the shopping center and explained
that trucks going through the chuck holes shake their house, the sidewalks have chuck holes, the
B.F.I. trucks unload dumpsters at 7:45 a.m., and stated that they cannot call the police every day. .
He maintained that this store will create more dumpsters, more trucks, and believed that the
design and colors of this shopping center had been an embarrassment and the laughing stock of
the area. Mr. King, a resident behind Handy Andy's, stated that any noise in the north area where
they are relocating the docks, echoes back into the condominiums. With the situation that is back
there, it is ixnpossible to keep the dust out of the units. He inaintained that Handy Andy is the
main problem and he and his wife have been complaining for 3 years about trucks being back
there night and day, but nothing is being done to prevent it. It took them three years to get
Handy Andy to shut off their public address system. He maintained that this will be another
headache, and he would like a solid wall like the one installed on I-480. He also noted that he had
been u.nable to sell his condominium He then complained about what had been done in the past by
both the condominium board and the Planning Commission during the land swap which enabled
the developers to build Plaza South. He stated that the residents were not going to put up with
more of this just so someone could make money. Mr. Gorris objected to his statements about
what had happened in the.past. Mr. Miller stated that he previously lived behind Kainan's Plaza
a.nd he had had some of the same problems, but he had seen what this Commission has done to
help the residents. Ms. Whitworth, objected to the same issues that the other residents had
mentioned and she, too, had been unable to sell her unit. Since business rarely stay in this plaza
for over a year, why should they add this project. Mrs. King, who lives behind Handy Andy's, and
stated that the resentment against this proposal is the result of the problems that they have had
with Handy Andy which the city has not settled. She too mentioned the truck problems and stated
that they call the Police constantly, but very little is done. She wondered why Mr. Biskind
allowed a lumber yard with an entrance in the back which customers can use as early as 8:00 a.m
3
