,.f
concemed because if the deck is raised, some of these wires will be at deck leveL The air
conditioner cover shown on the plan will be removed. The wall lights will stay, but they may
relocate them, aud they will not be adding lighting on the back of the lot. Mr. Conway noted that
they are surrounded by commercial properiy. Mr. Weitz stated that there will be new glass block
in the rear walls of the 'rest rooms and the windows in the back will be replaced, but will have the
mullions and will look the same. The window on the front will not be replaced. They will have to
rebuild some of the brick on the front of the hair salon: It was clarified that the ?ellow shovvu on
the material board was just to show the texture, not the color. There will be a new cap flashing
across the top of the building which will match the building. The air conditioner will remain in the
front over the doors, but will be less visible because of the awnings. In.response to questions, Mr.
Weitz stated that the exterior ceilings in the recessed entrance areas will be white or light gray. He
also stated that they intend to cover some of the concrete on the floors of the entrances in a gray
Astroturf material. Mr. Sohn stated that the concrete block and brick joints would still be visible.
Mr. Weitz stated that if the joints do show, there is brick in front and block on the sides and back
so the joints would be consistent. There will be no joints on the panels in the entrances. Mr.
Zergott asked if the side yards are going to be cleaned up as part of this project. It was noted that
tlus had been cleaned up previously. Mr. Sohn would prefer the dark green awnings on the entire
building, not two colors on the same building. After some discussion, it was decided that both
colors could be used. B. Zergott moved to accept the store front elevations as presented with the
stipulation that the utilities be hidden in some inamier or another. If the area ui the rear belongs to
them it should be cleaned up and re-seeded, and parking bumpers moved back to where they
belong, seconded by S. Krieger, and unauimously approved.
3) Ponderosa Steak House, 25779 Lorain Road,
Review of wall mural.
Mr. Zergott stated that there is another mural being painted on Neuevo Acapulco now, and if one
or two murals are allowed, there will be murals all over the city. Mr. Sohn agreed, but believed
that one is enough. Bu.ilding Commissioner Conway stated that each one should be judged
individually. Mr. Gallagher agreed and would like each one brought before the board. Mr.
Zergott believed that these should be stopped now. It was pointed out that this is part of
Ponderosa's national unage. Mr. Conway clarified that this was not considered signage, the code
specifically refers to murals. Mr. Zergott stated different people have different ideas of art, and
believed that there will be a variety of murals all over the city. Mr. Sohn stated that this mural is
not objectionable, however, he agreed that the whole idea would escalate. Mr. Conway clarified
that this was a minor change, and Planning Commission had not commented as yet. Mr. Zergott
restated that he personally is opposed to murals since he could not identify what is good art. Since
Plaiuiing Commission must also look at this he suggested that the members vote on it. Mr.
Gallagher questioned if this was not a sign. Mr. Conway stated that it is his responsibility to
interpret the code and he stated that the letters are considered a sign, the balance is a mural. If it
were all a sign, they could seek a variance. Mr. Gallagher stated that the Ski House on Center
Ridge Road was quite nice, but agreed that there would be a problem deciding what would be
acceptable. Mr. Gallagher believed that each mural should come to the board, first, before it is up.
Mr. Conway stated that this happened frequently, and since it was up, they would have to deal
with it, but everyone does not realize that they need permission to do this. Mr. Gallagher stated
3
