.
dense. There will be no lights on the building, all the lights are existing. There may be low roof
top mechanical units which would be kept back from the edge and would not be visible. Mr.
Conway believed that the metal building was in the beige shades, but stated that it did not stand
out at all. Mr. Fee stated that the red material would match the existing exactly, and the brick
would match as closely as possible. W. Zergott explained that Mr. Sohn had stated in his notes
that he had no problem with the height of the building or the materials as long as they matched the
existing. T. Gallagher moved to approve the Great Northern Dodge proposal, 26100 Lorain
Road, with the condition that the red material match the eaisting, the brick will match the existing
brick as closely as possible, and the existing brick will be cleaned if necessary; that the dumpster
will be screened on both the west and the north sides with some type of evergreen that is 6 foot
tall and dense; the roof units are not to be seeu from Lorain Road and are to be set back so they
will not be seen, seconded by B. OLD BUSINESS: (Heard at this point.)
1. Clark Oil, 28925 Lorain Road.,
Proposal to change colors on building.
Submitted originally as a minor changed, tabled by the Architectural Review Board so that a
representative could be present.
Building Commissioner Conway that he had brought this to the board as a minor change, and
since the members had a concern with the brightness of the colors and he had asked that a
company representative be present at this meeting. Mr. L. Davis, representing Clark Oil, explained
that Clark Oil is re-imaging all its stations in the mid-west, and at this location they will just be
changing the colors and the signs, no structural changes are planned. He presented a rendering of
a typical Clark site. Currently the color scheine is white, orange, and charcoal gray and they will
change the colors by apply a vinyl film over the buildiug; the existing red brick will remain.
Spandrels with signage will be added, and a variance will be requested from the Board of Zoning
Appeals. He presented pictures of existing stations which have been renovated. There was no
sample of the materials in the packet that he had presented. Mr. Zergott was concerned about the
bright blue, and the Planning Commission had commented on the red. Mr. Davis stated since this
is an applied material, there is little or nothing that they can do to tone the colors down. He noted
that the canopy fascia was only about 30 inches tall and the building was quite small. Mr.
Gallagher agreed that the colors could not be muted, but believed that they might fade in the sun.
Mr. Davis explained that the only liglit on the canopy will be the logo if it is approved by the
zoning board and the canopy will be ligbted with down lights. At present, the building sigu is
internally illuininated but it is to be changed to one that is externally illuminated. He advised that
they have had this design approved in several historic districts and have had no problems. Mrs.
2
