This is for a small foyer and covered porch. The member had no objection to
the request. W. Purper moved to grant the variance to Paul Sabol, 28382 North Park Drive
for a 9 foot front set back variance to construct foyer and covered porch. Mae Gaul, 3446 Tree Lane.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request 20 foot front setback variance to construct an
addition. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1135.06(a). Also request special permit to add to
non-conforming dwelling. Special permit required Ord. 90-125, Section 1165.02(b)(1). Note:
Variance to construct dwelling granted May 7, 1975.
Chairinan Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was administered
to Mrs. Gau1, and her contractor, Mr. Brown and to adjacent residents, Mr. and Mrs. Sakal,
Mr. and Mrs. Vamosperesi, Mrs. H'ickey, and Mr. Tryon. Mr. Gomersall advised that a
variauce had been needed to construct the house: originally. Mrs. Gaul stated that she had no
back yard so this is the only way she could add a master suite to the house. The neighbors all
objected to the addition being adjacent to the front setback of their homes and believed that
this would devalue their property. Mrs: Sakal had sent a letter also objecting to location of the
addition. Mr. Tryon noted that this addition would block the sun from his yard and would hurt
his landscaping. Build.ing Commissioner Conway explained the original variance. Mr. Brown
then presented a rendering of an alternate plan to add the master suite over the existing garage
wluch would turn this one and a half story house into two stories. He noted that Mrs. Gaul
had not seen this plan, but after his conversations with the Building Department, he felt that
this plan might be more acceptable to the city and to the neighbors. He explained the plan to
the neighbors. Mr. Conway.clarified that they would still need a 31 foot rear yard variance
and a special permit. Mrs. Gaul would prefer to go out to the side, but agreed to consider the
altemative since it was doubtful that the original request would be granted. Mr. Brown
5
