? . i <br />Chau-man Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was aciinivistered to Mr. <br />Gallagher who explained that the shed had been installed. Mr. Gomersall noted that this shed was 6 feet <br />off the property line, and the shed directly behind it was about 2 feet off the line. The members had no <br />problem with the request. T. Koberna moved to grant the request for William and Patricia Gallagher, <br />6612 Louann Drive, for a 57 square foot variance for shed over the 2% maximum of rear yard area <br />allowed. and to grant a 4 foot rear yard variance for location of shed. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section <br />1135.02(d)(1). The motion was seconded by J. Maloney and unanimously approved. Variances granted. <br />7. Shell Oil, 23385 I,orain Road. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request variance to have 25.5 square foot of excess business use <br />signage; request variance to replace face and price insert on existing prohibited pole sign Note: pole <br />sign is located in the prohibited triangular area. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.11(a); <br />1163.22(a) and 1163.04(a). <br />Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was administered to Mr. <br />Moore, engineer, who eaplaiued that when the station and food mart were rebuilt in 1990 the 3 by 10 <br />foot ETD signs for the food mart had been approved. However, the dealer did not to sign the franchise <br />agreement for the food store. Now he has decided to sigu it, but since the sigu ordinances have been <br />changed, they have reduced the ETD sign on the front of the building to 2 by 7 foot They also are asking <br />to replace the face and price iusert in the existing pole sign. Mr. Moore was aware that the pole sign <br />would have to be removed by 1998, but wheu that change is made, a variance for the location will be <br />needed since there is a stormretention pipe in the area where the sign would be permitted. 'Ihey will be <br />working with the Building Department regarding the uew sigu. He explained that the sign stood for <br />"Experience T}ie Difference". The members had no problem with the request. J. Maloney moved to <br />grant the request for the Shell Oil Company, 23385 Lorain Road, for a 25.5 square foot of excess <br />business use signage; request variance to replace face and price insert in existing prohibited pole sign. <br />Note: pole sign is located in the prohibited triaugular. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.11(a); <br />1163.22(a); and 1163.04(a). The motion was seconded by W. Purper, and unanimously approved. <br />Variances granted. <br />8. Sears Roebuck, 5000 Great Northeru Mall. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request 223 square foot variance for excess business unit siguage to <br />replace existing sigus; request variauce for 4 additional wall signs; request 4 foot height variance for wall <br />sigu on north elevation and 2 foot height variance for wall sign ou south elevation. Request variauce for <br />3 wall sign over the 75 square foot maximum: a 213 square foot variauce for sigu on uorth elevation; a <br />101 square foot variance for sign ou south elevation; and a 3 foot variance far sigu on east elevation. <br />Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.11(c); and 1163.12(a). Note: siguage being reduced by 178 <br />square feet from existiug siguage. <br />Chau-man Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was adininistered to Mr. <br />Kelleher, sign contractor. Mr. Gomersall noted that the entire sign package will be reduced by 178 <br />square feet from what is existing. Mr. Kelleher explained that Sears is remodeliug the interior of the store <br />and will do a little work on the outside. They will be changing the exterior signs from red to blue and <br />when the signs are lighted at night, they will be white. None of the signs are larger than the existing <br />sigus. He clarified that the directional signs would be exactly the same size. Mr. Goinersall stated that the <br />signs were bigger thau the code allowed, but they did not seem to be intrusive. The members had no <br />problem with the request. W. Puiper inoved to graut the request of Sears Roebuck, 5000 Great <br />Northern Mall, for a 223 square foot variance for excess business unit signage to replace existing sigus; <br />4
