??
M. Yager motioned to approve the proposal of Hollywood Video, with the following
recommendations: that the blue mountain scape be removed, the green panel extend; the entrance
portico be changed from a morning sun portico to a blue tone to coordinate with the metal panel.
Mr. Zergott added to the motion, that this board is referring the proposal back to pla?uiing
commission. Mr. Liggett suggested that the colors be coordinated such that they compliment the
Rini Rego's front. Mr. Zergott added, if the colors are coord.inated in -this manner, this may be the
best shot at getting the proposal tlirough planniug commission. The motion was seconded by T.
Liggett. Roll Call on Motion: Yager, Liggett, Krieger, yes. Zergott, no. Motion carried. In
response, to Mr. Klien's question, the clerk clarified that the next plauving commission meeting will
be January 14, 1997, and she will check with the chairman to verify the proposal will fit into that
agenda. The clerk agreed to coutact Mr. Klien when a definite date is established for the proposal.
2) Chesapeake Bagels, 24950 Lorain Road.
Ground aud wall signs.
Sign package and color samples of sigus and awning.
Heard at meeting of 11/20/96.
Mr. Doty, architect and Mr. Fitzpatrick, sign contractor, presented the proposal. Mr. Doty clarified,
he is here to present the colors of the awuing fabric and the landscaping. 1VIr. Zergott clarified he
will abstain from voting on the landscaping, as a friend of the family is working on the proposal. Mr.
Doty presented the landscape plan for the members review. He noted, at the last meeting the
landscape plan was denied, and several suggestions were made. Mr. Doty believed these suggestions
have been addressed and the plan has been updated as requested. The members did not appear to
have a problem with the landscape plan. Mr. Fitzpatrick began explaining the signs. The members
reviewed the drawings. Mr. Zergott explained the plants will be approximately the same height of
the wrought iron fence on the one side of the property. Along the east side, the landscaping will be
high enough to hide and help buffer the parking. The reason for most of the landscaping along
Lorain Rd., is to shield customers from the traffic. Mr. Yager asked for an explanation on the
signage. Mr. Fitzpatrick explained the proposal includes a ground sign, to be located on the south
side of the property as indicated on the landscape plan: Mr. Yager questioned, what the concept is
ofthe "Sweet Beans too" sign. Mr. Doty explained they are separate businesses. Assistant Bu.ilding
Commissioner Rymarczyk explained that they will need to provide the city with written proof these
are two separate businesses, and also verify how they will be run separately. Mr. Doty agreed to
take this information back to the owner. The owner can then respond to this request. Mr: Yager
believed the sign is nice, but had some questions concerning the logo. He would like an actual
photograph of an existing sign and logo, similar to the proposal. Mr. Yager believed the landscaping
has itnproved, but requested that the planting be extended all along Lorain Road. Mr. Fitzpatrick
explained the Chesapeake Bagel Bakery sign will be installed on the roof. Mr. Yager noted, the
board had a similar request with Einstein Bagels, and the members requested that the sign be lowered
down. He explained the relationship between the canopy and the sign is not shown on the drawing
and requested something in writing verifying a coordinated effort. He elaborated something could be
faxed to him or one of the other members that verifies this relationship. In response to Mr. Liggett's
question, Mr. Doty clarified tlie awning is actually a low sloping canopy. Mr. Doty noted, at the last
meeting, he took the boards comments back to the owner. The owner agreed to reduce the size of
the awning and incorporate outside seating, as long as it did not hold up the project. Mr. Yager did
not see a problem with shortening the canopy. Mr. Liggett cautioned a combination of shortening
the awning and the logo on the sign creates an image similar to a competitor, Einstein Bagels. He
noted this may not be something the owner wishes to pursue, but will leave this entirely up to them.
2
