?y
Mr. Barker, sigu painter, presented the proposal. The sign is yellow, with red letters and a school
house logo on the side. Chairman Zergott questioued the importance of the schoolhouse logo. Mr.
Barker believed it is important as the logo appears on advertisements. He noted the sigu faces the
parkiug lot on the back side of Hill's Department store and is mainly there to identify the entrance.
1V1r. Yager agreed the logo is inappropriate given conditions of the aesthetics. He elaborated, if the
building looked like the school house logo, it would be acceptable. Mr. Yager explained, by
removing the logo, the letters may be enlarged slightly as long as they meet the buildiug department's
guidelines. Mr. Zergott added, by increasing the size of the letters, the sign will becoine more
noticeable. Mr. Liggett noted, one of the directious the board has been taking is to eliminate a logo
if it is not incorporated with'vi the verbiage. He believed the board should consider some of the
graplucs, but understood the need to remove cartoonish logos. Mr. Yager responded, logos are
presented befare tlus board, and the members must then determine if it is acceptable. The members
were in general agreemeut that tlus particular logo is not acceptable. M. Yager motioned to approve the preseutation as submitted with the modification that the -logo is
removed. The motion was seconded by B. Zergott and unanimously approved. In the framing of the
motion, Mr. Yager noted he had no problem with the sign being eularged.
5) Studio Plus, will be located on Country Club Blvd., east of Victoria Plaza Apartments and west of
Grreat Northem Tecluiology Park.
Sigu package for proposed hotel. The sign will be a cobalt blue color.
Mr. Johnson noted the printed copies came out too purple, which does not accurately represent the
actual color. There will be two building signs: one over the main entrance facing Country Club
Blvd., and another slightly smaller one ou the eastern elevation facing Tech Park. The lawn sign
includes an aluminu.m jacket, but the owner is willing to construct it in masonry, if the board prefers.
The ground sign with the verbiage "N. Olmsted Studio Plus An Extended Stay Hotel," will be
located on the east side of the building, within a landscaped bed. There will be entrance signs on
both Columbia and the rear of the Tech Center. Mr. Zergott asked to see the landscape plan for the
ground sign. Mr. Yager noted, it would look better proportionally, if the sign is reduced slightly in
size. He recommended a masonry base on the ground sign.
T. Liggett motioned to accept the sign package as presented with the following comments: that the
proportion of the signs to the gable ends be addressed by possibly reducing the size of the sign; and
the base of the ground mounted sign should be a masonry material similar to the building. The
motion was seconded by S. Krieger and unanimously approved.
6) Suburban Auto Body and Frame, 26618 Brookpark Road Ext.
Crround sign.
Variance may be required.
Mr. Hixon, sign contractor, presented the proposal.
