was noted that there was a ground sign for the Radisson Inn on the freeway. Mrs. Krejci also
objected to both signs, aud adVised that she can see the Radisson sign from her window and all she
can see is the lights from the freeway and the sign. Mr. Moluse advised that this sign would not
appear as large from the homes. Mr. Gareau suggested that the board hold the rear sign in abeyance,
until there is a determination that a sign, identifying the hotels, etc., within the right of way, can be
approved by the highway department, and if not the developer could come back. Councilman McKay
asked if they are going to allow the second hotel, that is now being proposed, a sign on the freeway
also. He believed that every business that go into this area will want a sign facing I-480. The
members advised that each case is handled individually. Ms. Boyle believed that the hotel needed
some identification from the freeway. Mr. Maloney noted that the Courtyard signs are subdued
compared to others. It was agreed to hold the rear ground sign in abeyance and approve the rear wall
sign. Mr. Moluse clarified that all signs would be internally illuminated. R. Gomersall moved to grant
to the Marriott Courtyard, Parcel, `B", located on the south side of Country Club Boulevard, east of
Lone Star Steak House, and north of I-480 the following variances: a 31 foot front setback variance;
a 15 foot variance for south (rear) landscape buffer; a 12 foot rear yard variance for corner of the
building. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1149.04(c). Further to grant the 3.5 square foot
variance for the front build.ing sign; a variance to have a second building sign; an 8 inch height
variance for the rear build.ing sign; a 7.4 square foot variance for the area of the directional sigu.
Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.12(a)(b) and 1163.12(3). The 3 foot height variance for the
rear ground sign and the approximate 97 square foot variance for location of the rear grouud sigu
will be held in abeyance. The motion was seconded by J. Maloney, and unauunously approved.
Variances granted.
4. Eric Phfts, 5676 Allendale Drive.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request 7 foot rear yard variance for shed (akeady installed).
Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1135.02 (4). Variance for size of shed granted October 5, 1996.
Chairinan Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was administered to N1r.
Phillips who explained that when he asked for the variance in October, he had been told by an
inspector that he had 7 feet of property beyond the fence line and he did not need a location variance.
So he only applied for the size variance. Bu.ilding Commissioner Conway eaplained that there was a
misuuderstanding that there was additional property behind his fence, but it has now been determined
that his fence is on the property line. The members had no problem with the request. T. Koberna
moved to grant the request of Eric Phillips, 5676 Allendale Drive for a 7 foot rear yard variance for
shed (ah-eady installed). Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1135.02 (4). The motion was secouded-
, •
by M. Boyle, and unanimously approved. Variance granted.
5. Rich & Kelli Castrigano, 3852 Edg,epark Blvd. -
Request for variance (1123.12). Request 17 foot rear yard setback to construct family room addition.
Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1135.08(a). Also request special permit to add to non-conforming
dwelling (rear yard). Special pemut required Ord. 90-125, Section 1165.02(b)(1).
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was adlninistered to Mr.
and Mrs. Castrigano and Mr. Kirkendall, contractor. Mr. Gomersall noted that there was more than
enough room between the houses even though they are close to their own line. W. Purper moved to
grant the request of Rich & Kelli Castrigano, 2852.Edgepark Boulevard, for a 17 foot rear yard
setback to construct family room addition. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1135.08(a). Also to
grant a special permit to add to a non-conforming dwelling (rear yard). Special permit required Ord.
3
