Klein disagreed as he believed the channel letters ?is the siguage. Mrs. O'Rourke noted, according to the
code, the back lit awnings are considered signage. Mr. Brennan wondered ifthe corporate image
includes the mountain scape. Mr. Klein agreed that the typical Hollywood Video package includes the
mountain scape. Mr. Brennau believed, with this corporate image in mind, the entire top becomes a
sign. Mr. Klein disagreed as he believed they have created au architectural element. Mrs. Cameron
Alstou wondered if arclutectural review board recommended that the blue mountain scape be removed.
Mr. Klein denied this, and elaborated architectural review board actually recommended extending the
mountain scape to create an architectural element. Mr. Breunan believed the minutes indicated that
architectural review board recommended that the blue mountain scape be removed. Mrs. O'Rourke
questioned if the architectural review board minutes of November 20, 1996 refer to the drawing
presented tonight. Mr. Klein clarified that architectural review board did see a different drawing. It
was noted the red outline on the sign will be a back lit acrylic panel and the "Hollywood Video"
verbiage will be illuvuuated channel letters. The members believed this created one huge sign. Mrs.
O'Rourke asked if there will be any neon. Mr. Klein responded that none would be visible as all the
neon is behind an acrylic paste. He was u.ucertain if a florescent or neon tube would be used as the sign
fabricator will construct the sign. Mr. Brennan preferred the Berea Style signage to this proposal. Mr.
McAndrews explained that the Berea style signage was originally presented, but the architectural review
board made some recommendations. He elaborated they asked: that any exposed neon be removed; do
not use the metal panels; and that the sign should not just be centered. In addition, Mr. McAndrews
noted architectural review board recommended that the proposal be expanded to create an architectural
element. Mr. Brenuan did not believe the Berea Style signage includes any blue. Mr. McAndrews
verified it is a grey sign with red neon and the attached lettering. Assistant Building Commissioner
Rymarczyk noted the drawuig is not to scale. Mr. Tallon stated the Hollywood Video sign probably
does not conform. Mr. Klein confirined he was aware the proposal would have to go before board of
zoning appeals for area. Mr. Tallon requested color samples. Mr. Klein did not have samples, but
explained the colored copy is very close to the actual colors. Mr. McAndrews clarified the color will be
a flat ink well blue color. Mr. Koeth mentioned the Rini's sign is green and the colors do not appear to
match. Mr. Tallon noted architectural review board recommended that the colors coordinate with
Rini's. Mr. McAndrews believed the architectural review board wanted the proposal to appear as if it
were in a separate building from Rini Rego's. Mr. Tallon quoted the following from the architectural
review board minutes: "Mr. Liggett suggested that the colors be coordinated such that they conapliment
the Rini Rego's front." Mr. McAndrews wondered if the suggestion is to use green rather than blue.
Mr. Tallon clarified the suggestion is for coordination, so that the colors do not clash. He explained the
members also have a problem with the back lit awnings and the red lit strip along the mountain scape.
Mr. Manning would like to see the drawing expanded to show the relationship to Rini Rego's. Mr.
Herbster would also like to see a sample ofthe awning. Mr. Tallon suggested that the colors in the
awning be more subdued so that the tones are not as harsh. Mr. Klein clarified the awnings will have a
duller matte fuush. Mr. McAndrews verified the blue will end at the same level as the green facade. In
response to Mr. Tallon's question, a member in the audience explained the mansard will be 15 feet to
the top and 10 feet to the underside. The members had no further questions. Mr. Tallon asked if any
members from the audience had questions; none came forward.
R. Tallon made a-motion on the Hollywood Video, 4692-4678 Great Northern Boulevard, a revised
proposal to renovate storefront. The motion is to approve the proposal as submitted on colored
rendering P-6 (Dated 01-13-97) with the following mod.ifiications: that the red line on the top willnot
be back lit; that the awniugs-will not be back lit; that the mansards will join in a way that is not jutted or
intrusive; that the return will be on the north side to make-a smooth transition; that the blue will be
coordinated with the green from the existing building; and that the color samples will be brought back
to the next meeting. During the framing of the motion, Mr. McAndrews questioned if he may present
