1.4
architectural review board and the recommendations of planuiug coimnission: the awnings will not be
back lit; the top red accent will not be lit; there will be a return on the north end of the building; the
roof will tie into the existing Rini building; the colors will be as presented to the architectural review
board and plauniug commission on the January 20, 1997 copy of Hollywood Video color rendering; the
columns will be a warm white, the awning fabric will have a matte finish; and if they vacate the premises
they will have to return the facade to the original mansard. The motion was seconded by A. Manuing.
Roll call on motion: Tallon, Manning, Cameron Alstou, Koeth, and O'Rourke. Brennan and Herbster,
no. Motion carried.
The members discussed the square footage allowed for the sign, it was determined that the sign would
be about 96 square feet (75 foot allowed) aud about 7.5 feet high (4 feet allowed). Mr. Rymarczyk
advised that he had re-figured the signs at approximately 602.5 square feet which includes the 20 feet
wide awnings. It was noted that there was about 340 square feet of awniings. W. Tallon clarified that
the letters themselves are only 4 feet high, but they are staggered and when a rectangle is drawn arouud
them it is 7. 5 high. Each awning is 20 feet long so there is 340 foot of awning sign and approximately
250 foot of letter signage, based on the smallest square that it can be put in. Actually one awning will
account for their entire allotted square footage. Mr. McAndrews stated that when they removed the
back lighting, the awnings would not be considered part of the. sign area. It was clarified that they had
decorative logos on the awnings so they would be considered sign area. Mr. McAndrews suggested
having each awning a different color (one red, one blue, one black, one yellow etc.) The members
clarified that the "Hollywood Video" would still need a variance, but they did not like the different color
awniugs. Mr. Klein stated that they could go with a red awning to match the accent band and the color
of the word "Video". The awning would not then be considered a sign. The members agreed.
'R Tallon moved to refer the Hollywood Video proposal, 4692-4678 Great Northern Blvd. to the boar4
of zoning appeals with the recommendation that the film strips will be removed from the awniugs and
they would be a solid red color in the awning and the rest of the signage will remain as presented. The
recommendation of the board of zoning appeals is to allow the variance for the "Hollywood Video" and
to eluninate the film strip and yellow from the awuings so the awniugs are a solid red matte finish. The
motion was seconded by T. Brennan, and u.nanimously approved.
2) Radisson Hotel, 25070 Country Club Blvd.
Proposal to construct addition to existing hotel.
Amendment to Corporate Center preliminary land use plan approved by planuing commission
December 10, 1996 and approved by Council December 17, 1996.
Referral to board of zoning appeals is r.equired.
Mr. Kaczmar and Mr. Scott, architects, presented the proposal. Mr. I{aczmar presented a rendering
showing the original usage as stipulated by the previous master plan. A portion of this plan was changed
from recreational usage to hotel and parking to accommodate the addition. The second rendering
showed what was planned: a six story wing off to the east side of the north portion of the property for
guest rooms, and a one story 5,000 square foot banquet or ball room addition contiguous to that face of
the building. He clarified that there was a change in elevation of the ceiling in the banquet area. There
will also be an upgrade of the facilities in the existing hotel including an approximate 600 square foot
expansion of the existing restaurant on the west side of the property. He presented a revised site plar
which he maintained would improve traffic flow on the site for truck traffic and emergency vehicles
The addition will remain as shown in the original submittal. At this time there is parking immediately
contiguous to the north line, and they would -like to retain, along the north base, an access drive for
2
