,? .. .
. , ,
W. Purper made a motion to grant the request of Carol Cymbal, 23595 Alexander Drive, a 4 foot
variance for distance between dwelling and garage and a special permit to enlarge a non-conforming
dwelling. Mr. Gomersall added that a firewall is required anywhere in the garage that is not fifteen
foot as dictated by the building department. The motion was seconded by T. Koberna and
unanimously approved. Variances and special permit granted.
5. O S V Productious & Perfoimance Sycle 29601 & 9605 I;orain Road.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request variance to have two (2) businesses on one free standing
sign. Violatiou of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.12(h)_
Note: This pylon sigu is non-conformiug and inust be removed by January 1, 1998.
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was adiniiustered to 1V1r.
Smith, owner and Ms. Ziegler, sign contractor. Mr. Gomersall clarified the proposal is to include
both business names on one sign. The members had no problem with the request. Ms. Ziegler asked
that the board exempt this proposal from the January 1, 1998. The board agreed to exempt this from
the January 1, 1998 ordinance. Mrs. Ziegler questioned if the board is going to exempt all the
variance requests for multi tenant signs this year. Mr. Gomersall clarified all variances are addressed
on a case by case basis, therefore any future signs proposed would be-viewed independent of this case.
J. Maloney made a motion to grant the request of O.S.V. Productions & Performance Sycle, 29601-
9605 Lorain Road, to have two businesses on one free standing sign. Violation of Ord. 90-125,
Section -1163.12(h). This permit will be exempt from ordinance 1163.26 as related to non-
conforming signs, which would have expired January 1, 1998. The. motion was seconded by W.
Purper and unanimously approved. Variance granted. In the framing of the motion, Mr. Smith
explained the existing telephone box is an eyesore. He would like to cover the telephone box with a
removable brick facade' to improve the look: Chairman Gomersall wondered if there were any
restrictions in the code. Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk advised engineering would have
to answer that, as it is in the public right-of-way. Mr. Smith agreed to present this before the
engineering dep artment.
6. Chesapeake Bagels/Sweet Beans Bagel and Coffee Shop, 24950 Lorain Rd.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request variance to have an individual business sign on a free standing
sign. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.12(h).
Note: This pylon sign is a non-conforming sign and must be removed by January 1, 1998.
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was admiuistered to Ms.
Doyle, representing Sweet Beans Coffee Shop. Ms. Doyle explained she needs this signage for
identification purposes as it is a separate business from Chesapeake Bagels. Gomersall noted the
request is to have a second business on the sign. He advised the request for variance reads it is a
request to have an ind.ividual business sign on a free stand.ing sign. Assistant Building Commissioner
Rymarczyk clarified it should read to, have a second tenant on a free standing sign. Mr. Gomersall
updated the request to read "Request variance to have a second tenant on a free standing sign." Ms.
Doyle wondered if this sign would have to be removed by January 1, 1998. Mr. Gomersall explained
all signs must come before the board on January 1, 1998, because they are all non-conforming due to
1
the new rules. He believed this sign was similar to the request -from O.S.V. Igroductions, and the board
will consider exempting it from the new ordinance.
