subinitted. Mr. Turner said signage is a very important part of their package, there will be a new
morniment sign installed a menu board and two directional signs. Mr. Malone shared the color
samples subinitted. Mr. Rerko said the awning color appears to be a bright red rather than the
darlcer color discussed. Mr. Smith said the samples which are the darlcest palette were sent from
their headquarters. Mr. Rerko said he preferred the darker red awnings and asked if they would
be cloth or metal and Mr. Turner said they would be metal. Mr. Malone said his paclcet page 5,
showed the correct building rendering and page 19 called out the names of each paint color.
Meinbers preferred the darlc red and darlcer gold color palette shown in the color renderings. The
Commission felt that there were inconsistencies between the renderings and actual colors
proposed. Members requested samples of all colors proposed to be used on the building be
subrnitted. Mr. Rerlco asked if the existing windows shown where the logos will be placed will
be removed and filled in to accommodate the logos and asked how the drive-thru traffic would
staclc on the site. Mr. Sinith said they would paint staging pads on the pavement along the west
side the building. The only traffic which can go through the drive-thru is that which enters the
site from Canterbury Road, traffic entering from Lorain would have to park. Mr. Smith said they
would not be making any structural changes other than removing the entrance cap and filling in
the windows with stucco to mount the logos.
Mr. Malone asked if the previous approved landscape plan was going to be used in addition to
the landscaping shown on plan drawing S-1 and Mr. Smith said yes. Mr. Malone said the
following plant sizes should be shown on the plans: Barberis Vulgaris 24", Rudbeckia
Goldstrum lgal., Buxus Green Gem 24" to 30", Juniperus Sabina, Blue Forest 3 gal., Miscanthus
Sinensis, lgal., Hemerocallis, Happy Return 1 gal., and Taxus Densiformis 24" to 30". He
believes four wall signs are excessive as the two Popeye's signs provide sufficient visibili'ty. Mr.
Bohlinann said the existing stockade and split rail fence on the site needs to be replaced with a 6
foot privacy fence and the dumpster enclosui•e should also be reconstructed to match the solid
fencing. There are areas missing concrete curbing which should be replaced. Ms. Walker said
she agreed with fellow commissioners and felt the logos were not warranted. Ms. Wenger aslc.ed
if there were wall sign options which incorporate the logos alongside Popeye's name and Mr.
Smith said only on the monument sign. She suggested placing the logos close to the wall signs
incorporating them into the sign which could reduce the number of wall signs and Mr. Smith said
he would loolc into that. Ms. Nader aslced what the width of the menu board was as the plans
show different sizes. Mr. Turner said there is two side attachments which area attached to the
main menu board. Ms. Nader said it needs to be shown to scale on the plan to ensure the
proposed landscaping and sign can both be accommodated. She aslced for clarification as to
what would be modified at the entrance element. Mr. Sinith said the recessed window area
above the entrance doors will be filled in with stucco painted to match the other stucco colors
and a red band added above the awnings. Ms. Nader asked about the use of a faux balcony with
louvers and Mr., Turner said it is a corporate element to their buildings and serves as a canopy for
the drive-thru window. Mr. Smith said there would be no balcony over the drive-thru only on
the east elevation to give the building a New Orleans feel. He said because the drive through is
not visible fi•om any street he supports having a canopy only. Ms. Nader questioned the color of
the painted downspouts and scuppers which is noted as painted but no color called out. Mr.
Smith said they would paint them red to match the stucco or could paint them brown to match
the briclc color. Ms. Nader aslced where the color green listed on A-1 would be used and Mr.
Turner said the gooseneck lights and balcony shutters will be hunter green. She aslced what
2
