Interior Maintenance Code Cont.
Add Resources to Enforce Property Maintenance Codes North OGO
lmsted
2015 MASTER PLAN
Opportunities & Challenges
The Interior Maintenance Code gives the Division of Building additional tools to combat
blight in the community. An early challenge in 2016 was to develop the internal policies,
procedures, forms and resources to launch this initiative successfully. As of this Annual
Report, property maintenance staff inembers have just begun rental inspections. Over the
coming months, their observations about enforcement issues in the community, the usefulness
of the code, and the effectiveness of the process will help to improve the initiative by
recommending those adjustments that will result in a better program. While best practices in
code enforcement can be sought from other communities, the actual application of these
enforcement tools in North Olmsted will determine whether the program is ultimately
successful in bolstering property values in our housing stock.
Next Steps
The administration will closely monitor the work of property maintenance inspectors during
? this first year of the program. The Division of Building is in the process of developing metrics
by which to report progress to City Council and the community. Additional programs and tools
? may be considered as we understand more about current housing conditions in North Olmsted.
?
,?
