` ?• Mrs. Thogmartin suggested that if the home could not be saved then possibly the commission
could request that a plaque be placed on the firehouse identifying the site as the location of the
Stearns home or possibly naming the firehouse after the Stearns family. Mr. Lang suggested
the commission send a letter of recommendation pertaining to the home to Councils safety
committee. Mrs. Lord advised that the main thing that sets the historical home apart from
others is David John Stearns was the first settler of the Olmsted part of North Olmsted.
Commissioners discussed possibly having a small bench area in front of the firehouse close to
the sidewalk with plantings and the historical marker similar to what was done at the new
library. Mr. Lang suggested that if anything is to be saved from the original home then it
should be listed out in the bid specs and the drawings themselves to make sure in fact they are
saved.
Mrs. Lord read aloud Planning Director Wenger's letter dated September 1, 2005, the letter
advises landmarks that the City purchased the property at 29590 Lorain Road for the
construction of the new Firehouse #2. It further advises that the home/structure would need to
be removed from the site or demolished prior to April l, 2006 as that is the day the City will
brealc ground to begin construction. She encouraged Landmarks to explore ways that the
historic home might be preserved at another location and advised that she would be happy to
offer her support or answer any questions the commission may have.
IV. COMMUNICATIONS:
• Fagade Fa112005
• The Monticello Winter 2005
• The Local Historian December 2005
• Draft page for new resident packets for commission to approve
Mr. Lang reviewed that the draft page submitted did in fact reflect what the commission asked
to have written. Mrs. Davis suggested that she had a drawing that she thought should be used
for the flyer and advised that she would print it out and submit it to the commission.
P. Barker moved to approde the draft page for the new resident packets. T. Schock
seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Mr. Barker questioned if Mr. Lang and Mrs. Lord received his budget sheet. Mrs. Lord advised
that she received the sheet but did nothing and Mr. Lang advised that he was not sure when a
budget request was due. He advised that he spoke to Columbus regarding the CLG grant
application and found that there is no fee for submitting an application. He believed that the
$250.00 was inserted into their budget by the Planning Director for professional printing of the
application. Therefore the money for that is still available as the grant is not ready for print.
He is not sure what the fee would be for the commission to join the Historical Society as a
Corporate Group. He believed that the price could range from $100.00 to $150.00 but not
positive.
VI. OLI) BUSINESS:
Mr. Lang advised that the clerk asked that the commission address meeting dates and times for
the 2006 calendar year. The commission would like to continue to meet the second Monday of
each month at 7:00 pm.
M. I)avis aaioved to set 2006 Landmarks Commission monthly meetings to be held the
second Monday of each month and that the start time be set at 7:00 pm. L. Thogmartin
seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved.
3
