Mr. O'Malley advised that the commission could not use funds designated for one thing on
another item without prior Council or Finance Department approval.
Mr. O'Malley questioned were the commissions stood in regards to completing and
submitting the CLG application for submittal. Mr. Lang reviewed that the application
needed a coversheet for the historical properties, including maps and photos. The photos
of the historical district homes have been placed on the city office computer network.
Updated resumes on all commission members need to be submitted. He has a limited list of
past SITES students as the school does not have a listing of past placements. Mr. Schumann
suggested he would speak with the SITES teacher to see if he could get a detailed list. The
last item needed is information on the Commissions Historical Preservation Plans or
activities to promote preservation within the community thereby carrying out the
commissions' charter addressing present and future historical preservation goals.
Mr. Lang suggested it was a goal of the sub-committee that was set up to find additional
homes which could be plaque since the last search which was completed many years earlier.
The historic photos of the homes within the historic district still need to be put into a
PowerPoint presentation. Mr. Schumann stated it needed to be a goal of the commissions to
film and convert Mrs. VanAuken's slideshow presentation into a PowerPoint presentation
for the board of education as well as the commission's records before it is too late. He
suggested that he could easily lceep 4 or 5 SITES students busy working on completing both
presentations.
IV. COMMUNICATIONS:
• New Resident Packet sheet - to be updated
The commissioners discussed possible changes which could and should be made to the flyer
which is placed in all new resident packets. After incorporating a few changes for the flyer
Mr. Lang advised that he would make sure Trish Granfors from Engineering receives the
wording for the updates the commission would like.
• The Alliance Review (September/October 2005)
• Monograph 14 (fa112005)
• Forum News Nov/Dec 2005
s Preservation magazine Nov/Dec 2005
• Frostville Gazette
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Mrs. Thogmartin reviewed that she and Mrs. Lord compiled information on the Stearns
home and e-mailed the information to all the commissioners. She reviewed some history
regarding Mr. Stearns and felt that the commission should try to save the family home. Mr.
Schock reviewed that he and Mr. Schumann met with Planning Director Wenger and the
Mayor. His feeling from the meeting was that the Mayor did not feel that the home could be
saved based on the current plans being looked at. The Mayor would like to see the carriage
house saved but. as far as the house, he would allow the Landmarks members in the home to
see if there is anything of value which could be saved.
4
