Mrs. Schumann reviewed that he was contacted by the Law Department to see if a date
could be setup to enter the home. The owner of the home has asked for the commission to
wait a few weeks before they visit the home.
Mr. Schumann voiced that the West Life article regarding the Historical Society and
Landmarks Commission working together to save the Stearns home was somewhat
misleading. Neither the Historical Society nor the City has funds to move the home to
Frostville. He noted that none of what was said was a lie but unless someone comes
forward and donates the total funds needed to move the home to Frostville the home will not
be saved.
In the meeting with the Mayor trading or selling land to the metro parks was discussed as
well. It was suggested that as the firehouse project is paid for with bond money the city
could not use those funds to move the home. Some commission members felt that money
from the bonds could be used as moving the home could be part of site prep costs. Or the
city could donate land to the metro park if they would pay to move the home to Frostville.
Mr. O'Malley advised that he could not advise the commission, the commissioners
questions would have to be addressed to the bond council who overseas city bonds as he
was not qualified to advise them on such matters. Mr. Schumann reviewed that at this point
in time he believed that some people at the Metro Parks may prefer no further homes be
moved to Frostville until the church is completed as moving homes to the site does create
messes for awhile. The commission discussed inviting the metro parlc representatives to a
meeting.
Mr. O'Malley advised against the Commission inviting the Metro Parks to discuss any
"what if' conversations pertaining to the Stearns home. He advised that the commission
needed to work internally by going through city officials at City Hall regarding moving the
Stearns home to the Metro Parlcs. He suggested that the commission could speak with the
Historical Society. He reviewed that by charter the layout and design of the firehouse is
required to go before the Planning Commission for their review and recommendations for
Council. He hoped that the administration had not committed too much to the architect
before Planning Commission makes their recommendations.
Note: At this point in the meeting Mr. O'Malley had to leave the meeting and Mrs. Lord
arrived. The commission continued to discuss possible ways to save the Stearns home and
build the firehouse. Commissioners felt that the Metro. Parks could use the home as a
visitor's center along their walking paths throughout the park. Mr. Rerko suggested
meeting again with the Mayor, City Planner and the Architect to discuss the commission's
ideas one last time.
Mr. Schumann reviewed that the High School Key Club painted the Jenlcins Cabin at
Frostville Museum in about two days with a total of 20 to 25 kids. They also did work on
the church as well. The next project is the lcey club will be taking on is painting the Hurst
Barn. He reviewed that the Hurst Barn would be moved to the museum site eventually.
Mr. Schumann advised that he and Lori were able to enter the Barton Roads Church
Schoolhouse and in the basement of the schoolhouse there were chestnut beams in a box.
The church recently contacted Frostville to tell Lori that Frostville could have the home or
anything in the home they wanted. The Historical Society voted on entering the building
5
