that there were sconces but they are not eonnected to the gas. The bell (diaphragm) in the
basement is still there but does not work, although he would like it to be reconnected. He
suggasted that there were still natural gas lamps in North Olmsted along Revere Drive. The
original roof was a steal alloyed which lasts about 50 years and had a raised seam.
1VYrs. Lord indicated that the commission would lilce to plaque the Barton Road Church. Mr:
Schumann indicated that the Historical Society believes the church was built in the 1840's.
Mrs. Lord thought that it might be older but when there is to be a grand opening of the
building the Landmarks Commission would like to plaque the church. Mr. Schumann
reviewed the structure of tlie church and the layout of the beams and styles that were used in
the construction of the Church. Mrs. Lord suggested that it would take about 6 months to
get the plaque so the Historical Society would need to give the commission plenty of natice.
Mr. Schu.mann advised that the building would be closed up for the winter and in the spring
they would start to replace the windows. Althaugh there have been no further cash
dona.tions they will be able to finish the current work being done on the church. A company
by the name of "Mahoney Sash and Door" located in Medina does historic restorations
throughout the Country but not known in North East Ohio. The owner has taken the
windows and is making new window jams, which is very hard to do. It is about a$30,000
dollar donation in work. There is also a gentleman who has volunteered to reproduce
rounded trip for the bell tawer. A few roofing companies have donated time to put up the
trusses and sheath the roof and then either the saYne companies will put on the shingles or a
different company is scheduled. The shingles that are to be used are dimensional asphalt
shingles due to money constraints. It was found that the original shingles were wood
shakes, but while moving the church they found that in the 1880's when the addition was
added a slate roof was added. As the shingles were donated to the park that is what will be
used.
dV. Mrs. Lord believed that the introduction of the letter
could be changed. Mr. O'Ma11ey suggested removing the first sentence from the sheet a11
together.
V. CO1dIlVIITTEE REPORTS:
Mr. Lang advised that a message was left with the Mayors secretary as well as the Musial
Law firms' secretary since Landmarks last meeting indicating the commission would like to
speak to them regarding the Stearns home. Mr. Lang would like to see a portion of the
proceeds from the sale of the home donated to help move the home to Frostville. He is still
waiting to hear from the owners' attorney. Mr. O'Ma11ey suggested questiorairag if the
owners could donate pictures, or information pertaining to the home. Mrs. Lord believed
that one of the family members wanted to preserve 'the home and the other was not
interested.
