•? .? Mr. Lang passed out copies of the resolutions authorizing Landmarks Commission
permission to apply to the Ohio Historical Preservation Office for CLG status which was
voted on by Council August 2, 2005. Mr. Schock believed that the resolution should
include wording dictating that all future utilities be placed underground..
Mr. Lang advised that all the items listed in the Halleen letter were currently being stored in
his barn. He advised that in the near future the commission should advertise their
availability either by the commission or through the historical society. He reviewed that
once any items are turned over to the historical society the society is free to do as they
please with the items. Mr. Lang reviewed that while going through the Beebe home with
the historical society there was an item of contention, which he may have wrongfully took
an item and that is the front door of the home. The door is an ornate solid oak door with
oval beveled-glass. There were two offers to purchase the door the day it was removed from
the home. However, he believed that the door should not be sold until an appraisal of the
door could be made to accurately price the door. Mr. Schock believed that to by a door of
that type new would run about $1,000.00. He felt that if the door in fact was historical and
in gaod shape it would still be worth $1,000.00. Mr. Lang reviewed that the door was in
good shape and all the hardware to the door was salvaged as well. The only thing missing
was the key to the door knob which he has inquired as to its where about. He asked if any
members had an idea of how to sell the items he was storing. Mr. Schock suggested E-Bay
would be the quickest way to get the items sold. Mr. Lang believed that they could
inventory the items he was storing. Mr. Barker suggested that the commission allow the
Frostville Museum first chose of any items they may want to use at the museum. Mrs. Lord
questioned if the commission could or had the right to sell the items. Mr. Barker suggested
the commission speak with the Law Department regarding selling any items. Mr. Schock
believed that the best thing to do was donate the items to the Historical Society. Mr. Barker
agreed and requested the clerk send a letter to the Historical Society inviting them to attend
the September Landmarks meeting to discuss turning the items over to them as well as
possible assessment of the items. "
P. Barker moved to have the clerk send a letter to some rnembers of the Historical
Society i.e. Angie Cadwallader inviting her to attend the September 12, 2005 meeting
to discuss the items of the Beebe home. With a prior review of the materials and
prepare to cliscuss the disposition of the items for the September meeting. B. Lord
seconcled the motion which was unanimously approved.
Mr. Barker reviewed the e-mail from Ms. Wenger listing 5 items missing from the CLG
Application packet. The items missing are: (1): Need updated information on application
i.e. Mayor and Commission Members. (2). Cover sheet for historic properties, maps and
photos. (3). Updated resumes of Landmarks Meinbers. (4). Index of past SITES students
assigned to Landmarks. (5). Provide more information on the City's Historic preservation
plan or activities conducted by Landmarks to promote Historic Preservation.
Mr. Lang indicated that the resumes were being updated however Mr. Bohlmann's was not
received and requested the clerk supply a copy of his resume for the file. Ms. Wenger was
to create the cover sheet with a map identifying the historical sites. The commission does
not have current pictures of the Nationally Registered Properties but that could be done very
quickly. Mr. Lang indicated that he would contact the school to get a list of SITES students
that have been assigned to work with the Landmarks Commission. The commission would
need to construct some type of time-line depicting past, present, and future goals for land
preservation and public awareness for the application.
2
