During roll call of the
motion, Mr. Bohlmann voiced that he believed that there were still safety issues which
should be addressed and felt doors should be placed on each of the two bays.
VI. NEW BUSINESS:
North Olmsted Fire Station #2; Lorain Road, PP# 233-13-005: (WRD 3)
Proposal consists of constructing new fire station Q.
Ms. Wenger discussed the City administration's progress on planning and design for the new fire
station. She reported the Metroparks' approval of the City's proposal for a joint access drive on
park property and how this would provide for more green space adjacent to Elmhurst Drive
properties.
Mr. Cliff, representing Brandstetter Carroll Zofcin, reviewed the site plan, floor plans and
elevations. The building will be constructed with three colors of brick. There will be a dark
band of briclc along the base of the building and the majority of the building will be a red brick
with tar. briclc accent bands. The public entrance will be located at the south west corner of tlze
building and will be part of the clock tower. The tower will have a red metal roof and the
remaining roof material will be a weather-wood color, dimensional asphalt shingle. The building
is designed so emergency vehicles will return to the firehouse along the west side drive around to
the north of the building which has three entrance bays. Mr. Yager believed the visitors' entrance loolced
minimal next to the bold tower and suggested either making the entrance taller or giving the
entrance more prominence. The white columns along the west side seemed squat and
contemporary elements could be added. The tower and the visitors' entrance should be
showcased with lighting. He suggested the city look into geo-thermal or rainwater retention or
other environmentally sound systems which could be used. He also raised the idea of including
public art in the project. Mr. Bohlmann suggested illuminating the flag-pole and ground sign as
well as the tower and main entrance.
Mr. Malone supported planting trees along the east and northern property lines and suggested a
mix of evergreens and flowering shrubs. He suggested that landscaping be used around the
generator and said that flowering crabapple trees along the east side of the building would help
4
