.y
professionals. In the application, the relationship between the Landmarks Commission and the
Olmsted Historical Society should be stressed. Mr. Thomas will compose some of the required
essay answers for the application.
Ms. Davis read Question 8 on Page 4 of the application checklist concerning annual continuing
education requirements for commission members. Mr. Schumann said the commission members
need to begin incorporating that requirement. Groups can be invited to address to the
commission before or after regular meetings. A representative from the Olmsted Historical
Society, Architect Steve McQuillan, and professionals in the field of restoration were suggested.
The public may also be interested in attending. The sponsor of Preservation Magazine offers
speakers. The Cleveland Restoration Society, through their monthly newsletter, offers a variety
of programs, some free of charge.
Mr. Schock read some examples of CLG grants from a newsletter titled Grants Fund Historic
Preservation Projects in Seven Communities and passed the newsletter around to members
present. The CLG grants provide funds for historical restoration and preservation projects. The
grants provide 60% of the funding, and the local government must cover 40%. Aside from City
funding, non-profit groups may commit to providing the 40%. If you have a goal and a solid
program, more aggressive approaches can be utilized.
Mr. Schumann reported there have already been ten inquiries for weddings at Frostville Village
Church for 2009. Three weddings are scheduled for August; five or six more for remainder of
2008. This is all without advertising, just word of mouth. With the low overhead costs a
reasonable price can be offered. Metroparks representatives support the Olmsted Historical
Society in using the church for weddings and the site for other events. Mr. Schumann expects
more individual donations as well.
NEW BUSINESS
Website Links
It was agreed the City website should have a link to the Olmsted Historical Society. The
society's webmaster, Mr. Chris Steward, will set it up on that end. Mr. Thomas will submit a
request to the City for the link. The Metroparks site should also be linked with the society.
Building, Zoning and Development Meeting for Biddulph Trail
Mr. Schock requested information on the conclusions of the Planning and Design Commission
concerning the Biddulph Trail project. Mr. Lasko said the commission made a concerted effort
to apply all codes, consider all facts, receive input from all appropriate boards, commissions and
the public, and to compile a complete record of all data concerning the review process. The
result is a complete chronology of the process from the beginning to ultimate conclusion and
final recommendations. A written report suminarizing the result of their deliberations was
prepared and submitted to Council.
