.-
Frostville Area Streetscape Banners
Mr. Schumann said Planning Director Wenger included funding in the Planning Department
budget for streetscape banners. The purpose is to feature Frostville, the City, and to advertise for
the Kiwanis and Cultural Activities art shows hosted at Frostville. The City will purchase eight
to ten banners with hardware for hanging on utility poles around the Frostville area. The top
portion will be a permanent banner. A member of the Cultural Activities Commission is
working on a logo. Mr. Schumann suggested the Landmarks Commission consider similar,
smaller banners along the Butternut Historical District in 2009. Councilman Orlowski
mentioned electric lanterns he saw along Dover Center Road in Bay Village. Mr. Schumann
mentioned the holiday lighting contest the Cultural Activities Commission is to sponsor.
Mr. & 1dIrs. Palumbo; 25684 Kennedv Ridge Road
Request for Historic Recognition Plaque
Mr. and Mrs. Palumbo are interested in obtaining a historic plaque for 25684 Kennedy Ridge.
Along with information from Landmarks Commission files, Mr. Thomas obtained copy of the
Ohio Historic Inventory on the home. The owners obtained records from City Hall files and
Cuyahoga County archives; the deed shows the year 1825 for the land and the house. The Ohio
Historic Inventory shows the first transfer in 1851. When dates conflict the home is often
plaqued as "circa..." The first owners were recorded to be Orson and Emiline Spencer. The
home was later called the Standen House. Milo Standen is an ancestor of the family that built
Springvale. Title was transferred to Maxine and Harry Standen in 1960. The home is likely to
meet the criteria for a historical plaque. An application was given to the owners for submittal to
the Landmarks Commission.
gIistoric Items at Old "I"own Hall
Mr. Thomas said there are a few boxes stored at Old Town Hall, including Mayor's Court
records from 1930. During the depression, when Charles Seltzer was mayor, court was held at
his home. Some defendants put up collateral, in one case a violin, which was auctioned off when
the defendant did not return. The records go back to 1909 and include information on the North
Olmsted Municipal Bus Line and the North Olmsted Congregational Church. Permission is
needed to move the archives to the newly created Landmarks Commission space at Frostville.
The new room is equipped with climate control and has no windows, which is much safer for
historic items. Other items were given to Frostville by the City in the past. Discussion took
place on the proper procedure to obtain permission. Councilman Orlowski requested a complete
inventory be completed on all historic items.
OLD BUSINESS
Certified Local Government Application
Mr. Schumann said he would like to complete this project. To support the application, updated
resumes are requested from all commission members. With the addition of architect Don Rerko,
the Commission now has required positions filled.
