Mr. Laslco questioned the roll door along the front of the building and asked <br />if it required a variance. Mr. Mitchell said although unusual to have a roll door on the front <br />fagade it does not require a variance as it is not a point of egress. <br />Mr. Rerlco said he liked the darker color roof and aslced what type of roll door was installed. Mr. <br />Draeger said the door was a slatted roll door flush to the wall and would be painted to match the <br />building. There is a man door next to the roll door which would be used unless items are too <br />large for the door. Mr. Rerlco aslced if the concrete staircase would be briclced or painted and <br />coping added. Mr. Draeger said the stairs would be painted to match the rear wall and have solid <br />capstone tops which are impervious to water. Mrs. Meredith said she was pleased with the <br />applicant's willingness to enlarge the landscaping area and incorporate the changes requested. <br />Mr. Weber with Goodwill apologized for the manner in which former stores operated and were <br />maintained. He assured the new store would be well kept and no items would be outdoors. <br />There will be a sealed compactor and security cameras to ensure the site is maintained properly. <br />Mr. Laslco read Councilman Barlcer's letter addressing his concerns as well as his understandings <br />that the new site is under new ownership and loolced forward to having the new business in Ward <br />2(see attached letter). Mrs. Meredith thanked the new owner for coming forward to address past <br />practices and giving the city assurances the new site would be properly managed. <br />Mr. Lasko moved, seconded by 1VIr.1VIalone, to approve the proposal for COMS08-02: <br />Save-A-Lot & Goodwill of 23000 Lorain Road which consasts of exterior alterations and <br />site improvements with the following conditions: <br />1. Brick pavers not stamped brick will be utilized along Lorain Road. <br />2. New plans submitted showing the 19 parking spaces removed and replaced with <br />landscaping approved by both Mr. Malone and BZD. <br />3. The southwest lawn area is to be landscaped consist with the new front landscaping. <br />4. The two handieap spaces aligned with the overhead door are to be relocated and the <br />area designatecl as a drop off for donations. <br />The motion was unanimously approved 6-0. <br />COMS08-06e Hampton Inn; SW corner of Countrv Club Blvd & Columbia Rd: <br />Representative: Jeff Kerr, Atwell Hicks <br />Mr. Laslco said the proposal consists of constnicting a new 94-room hotel. PDC tabled 05/28/08, <br />7/23/08 and BZA granted variances 8/7/08. Ms. Wenger said the applicant received three <br />variances and have returned with various changes including saving 14 trees mainly along I-480, <br />the dumpster enclosure all masonry, a storage area removed and the slope, heights and depths of <br />the mounds shown on the plans. She recommended landbanlcing two parking spaces east of the <br />building and noted there were no cross easement documents provided. Mr. Collins said plans <br />showed water quality ponds around the perimeter of the site. Although all the ponds are <br />designed to be dry, during rain they will be wet. The site is flat so water does not drain well and <br />the ponds are well designed but require additional maintenance. <br />Mr. Kerr said the modifications were made based upon the commission's requests and they tried <br />to worlc with the city forester to preserve trees throughout the site.
