?-.._ .
General Business district. Mr. Capone explained the operation ivvolves paiut less deut
removal ineauing small dents are removed from velucles without use of paint. The process
involves hand-crafted tools and a series of small pushes to massage the metal back. Mr.
Capone explaiued there is a facility in Warrensville Heights wluch caters to both dealerships
and insurance companies. He noted dents the size of a softball can easily be removed. T'he
process takes less than an hour to complete and there is no chemical solvents or painting
involved. The service in tlus area is right now being performed as a mobile service_ The
location is the old Auto Accent building. Mr. Capone confirmed all work would be
comipleted on the inside of the building. The members had some concern about velucle
storage, as far as where waiting cars would be stored and for how long. Mr. Tallon did not
want anyone to have to look at a wrecked vehicle for an extended period. of time. Mr.
Capone questioned what the policy is for the number of cars permitted to be parked outside
while awaiting repair. Mr. Conway advised the concern is more with an auto body shop as
people do not want to be looking at a damaged vehicle for weeks at a time. Mr. Capoue
advised usually vehicles are in and out however on the rare occasion where tliere may be hail
damage, the dents may take about a day to repair. Mr. Conway questioned how much area is
available belund the building. Mr. Capone estimated space for three to four vehicles belund
the building. Mr. Conway suggested malcing it a condition that storage of velucles be kept to
a minimum. Mr. Koeth questioned how many employees would be worldng in the shop at
any given time. Mr. Capone advised there would be a receptionist and one technician. He
advised it would be quick repair work although they do have to get behind the dent to do the
work. Mr. Asseff questioned if the interior of the door panel would have to be removed to
repair a dent on a door. Mr. Capone advised in the case of a door dent a wedge is placed in
which separates the window from the body skin so that no interior panels need to be
dismembered which provides the quiclmess for this type of repair. He noted all the tooLs are
all rod shaped and easily able to slide between the window and door panel. Mr. Tallon
opened up discussion to the audience but no interest was expressed.
R. Tallon moved to approve Dent Wizard, 25021 Lorain Road that this is a similar and
•
permitted use in a General Business district as a seivice entity and that the storage of cars will
be to a minimum so that there is no weekly storage ofvehicles. Tlie motion was seconded by
R. Koeth and unanimously approved. It was announced the next step for this proposal is the
B.Z.D. committee of counciL The developer was advised to contact the clerk of council next
week for possible meeting dates.
3. Patton's Towing, 4960 Dover Center Road: - 1139.01 (4-C) Determination that use is similar & permitted in General Business district.
Mr. Conway explained although the towing of vehicles is an accessory use to other uses in
town, the code does not address towing facilities as a primary use which is the reason this is
before planning commission this evening. Mr. Patton stated he has been asked by the police
department to find a facility that would be approved to store the vehicles that are wrecked
and some impounds. He noted the area behind Suburban Auto has been used for this pu.rnose
and there is an existing wooden fence. Mr. Tallon questioned what would be done with the
front of the building. Mr. Patton advised cars will only be stored in the area fenced off and
there will be no run offinto the front of the building. Mrs. O'Rourke questioned the capacity
of the fenced in area. Mr. Patton confirmed there is room for twenty vehicles and any access
vehicles would be moved to the lot on Mills Road in North Ridgeville. He noted the idea
here is this facility is so much closer to the police department, instead of having to go all the
