K,
certainly put curbing in where they are putting new pavement in, but he doesn't believe they are
going to try to re-curb the whole front of this building. Mr. Ta11on commented that this is a
pedestrian friendly service center and it is not supposed to be a race across for your life type of
thing, which he sees. When there is no designated sidewalk then the cars go where ever they
can fit, and if a car coming out of a lane and they turn a little wide they just move over and they
are right up on the designated sidewalk next to the building. Mr. Hreha comrnented that now
when he thinks back to it when he came out of the building one of the trucks behind him was so
close to the building and they had one of those orange carts which they were unloading things
into the truck that if there were pedestrians walking east they could not get between the truck
and the building. They would have had to go out around the tn,ick which leads them into a lane
of traffic. So the curbing is not a bad idea from a safety standpoint, but he still thinks the
location of the tool rental center should be between the empty pylons. Mr. Tallon questioned
what is going to happen with the gas powered tools, is there going to be a Smiling Joe's Gas
Station right outside and how are people going to know that their tool works if they don't start
it. Mr. Fredrickson commented that there is a control area with a one hour rated wall against
Home Depot. There will be a 30 gallon tank inside the control area where the tools will be
filled and the costumers will fill the tools back up with gas before the return them. The board
was very concerned with people starting their rented tools in fi-ont of the store. Mr. Fredrickson
commented that he would bring the person in charge of these operations at the next meeting if
they would be tabled tonight. Mr. Koeth questioned if it would be possible to put the tool
rental center in the garden area. Mr. Hreha commented that they could have some kind of tool
testing area behind the garden center where it is open and not indoors. Karen King from 25320
Clubside Dr. came forward to comment. She lives directly behind Home Depot. She was
worried about the board talking of putting the tool rental center in the back of the garden
center. Mr. Tallon quickly corrected her and told her the front of the garden center. She
questioned the loading for the tool rental center. Mr. Fredrickson commented that they would
bring the tools in from the back the first time, but seeing that the tool will be rented time and
time again there will not be an increase in rear building activity. Mrs. King commented that a
lot of stuff like drywall, picket fence, carpet and wiring all stacked up the rear of the Home
Depot. She recommended a gate or a chain is put up to stop the off-hour trucks from cruising
in and out. She really wants to see something done to the mound; it is depreciating her property
Value. R. Tallon recommended that she talk to the Mayor and her Councilrnan to help her
situation out. Mr. Dubelko commented that they are not allowed to make deliveries and trucks
are not to be there -between 9:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M. Mr. Tallon commented that Developers
Diversified-has told them that they will take responsibility for the mound and do to it what needs
to be done. Billie Oring of 25520 Clubside #10 came forward with comments. She wants to
see green on the mound. She commented that she received a letter last May stating that they
were going to put ivy on the mound, which never happened. She can't believe the city is not
concerned with the mulch going down into the catch basins. When it rains and the kids play up
there makes the mulch gradually fall down the mound into the basins and they get clogged up.
Mr. Ta11on questioned if W. Fredrickson could take a message back to Developers Diversified
and explain to them that there is concern about the mulch on the mound. Mr. Fredrickson
explained that he would not come. back with out Gary Hough, Mr. Home Depot and the store
manager.
4
