Mr. Schill from Schill Architect came forward to review the proposal. Mr. Schill reviewed that
J the front facade will be remodeled on the existing Giant Eagle frontage to house Dicks and
Cort Furniture. NIr. Schill indicated that they will remove the existing Giant Eagle front.
They will also be removing all the everything off up to Hollywood Video and replace it with
the split face block, pillars, and accent banding at- each of the entrances. The north covered
walk way will be removed and spandrel glass windows will be put in place which would
disconnect Hollywood Video from what they are doing with Dick's Sporting Goods and Cort
Furniture. Mr. Schill indicated they would like to take what they are doing up to the demising
wall of Michael's, since their lease has less than two years and they don't anticipate them
renewing their lease. We have been talking with several retailers who will either renovate the
fagade or match what Dick's Sporting Goods and Cort's have going on or there are a couple
other scenarios of tearing it down and rebuilding the whole corner all the way around the side.
Mr. Schill indicated that the accent color of the Split block will be Hickory 1212 and the field
color of Buff Rock 1919. Mr. Zergott questioned whether the shade and model numbers were
listed on the sample. Mr. Schill replied yes. Mr. Schill went on to explain the alternating
colors in the brick with the light and dark which is going to tie into what they have down at
Michael's. Mr. Yager asked to see proto type picture of Dick's Sporting Goods at another
location. Mr. Schill passed out a photo of the entrance of the Dick's Sporting Goods store in
Elyria. Mr. Zergott questioned how tbe mansard of Michael's going to be tied in. NIr. Schill
responded that at this time they are just going to stop at Michael's. Mr. Zergott questioned if
they would bring it around since it sticks out some. Mr. Schill responded that it only sticks out
about 8", so it is nothing major. Mr. Schill indicated that the green of the mansard of Dick's
Sporting Goods colors will be on all the mullions, all the coping, and riveting. Its going to help
tie us into not only these but the rest of the shopping center which has the forest green roof,
except for the Hollywood Video. Mr. Schill indicated that on the photo from Elyria, the Dick's
Sporting Goods has more gbing on since it was built from the ground up. At this time, the
Board Members reviewed the photo of the Dick's Sporting- Goods in- Elyria. Nir. Yager
questioned if they were going to do any of the banding like on the Elyria store. Mr. Schill
replied no, because the store is Elyria was built from the ground up, typically they don't do
that. NIr. Lic,gett questioned what would be done with the sidewalk as far as landscaping, were
they going to break it up in any way. Mr. Schill indicated that the sidewalk was .only 8 feet
deep and the parking lot is too narrow to come out into it. Mr. Liggett suggested that they
narrow it down to a five foot walkway to add some landscaping buffing against the building to
soften the facade of the building, if not trees then maybe planter boxes. Mr. Zergott indicated
the whole site needs landscaping. Mr. Schill indicated that when something happens down
there, the whole corner is going to change in terms of not only architecture, but also
landscaping and new signage. They have made the commitment and now they need to start
updating a bit. Mr. Yager questioned what the owner owned in that strip area. Mr. Schill
responded the owner owned the entire strip. Mr. Yager indicated there is a huge lack of
landscaping and he suggested that he has never seen the whole parking lot full all the way. Mr.
Schill indicated that when the store was a Giant Eagle the lot became pretty full. Mr. Zergott
suggested putting islands in the parking lot. Mr. Yager suggested going back to the owner
about getting a landscaping program for this whole area that is sorely lacking. Mr. Schill
questioned if they were already short on parking. Mr. Conway indicated that the applicants
needed variances for parking, as they are short. Mr. Conway suggested looking at how the use
changed with Dick's Sporting Goods and Cort Furniture and then maybe get some islands in
when that occurs. Mr. Schill suggested that the end of the strip would have more changes over
the next two years. Mr. Liggett suggests getting some landscaping up close to the building
since the fagade is changing. Ms. Schultz suggested that the Cort Furniture entrance did
nothing for her. She indicated that they are starting to incorporate the whole canopy idea and
7
